New WW2 Tactical Wargame 'The Troop'

Post by Alan Sharif »

It's turn based and on Steam, and there is a free demo to download. Due to technical inability on my part I am unable to provide a link. If anyone of you can could you please provide one below? Thanks.

This game doesn’t look varied enough, I’m afraid we’ll get tired quickly...

I'm in playtest. Devs are serious but again and again, the presence or absence of the scenario editor will make the difference.

agree with Rico, have tested this for a year or more now and tbh with out a editor, that may be the life or death of many a new game, not just this one

Here are a few screenshots from the first scenario. I must say I am enjoying this very much. Gorgeous graphics. Thanks for the post.

map 1: British airborne troopers advance from the flanks with the central group opening up on German troopers guarding the front.
map 2: Close up of the center. Germans return fire from inside of the building and the paras receive one casualty.

map 3: Close up of the right flank. A group of Germans runs out of the trees towards the action and the brits open up.

Maybe there will be free updates or DLCs in the future with new content ?

It’s pretty dark, does it happen at night ?

I tried the demo and I have to be able to see in a more horizontal manner. Plus, need the zoom view to go farther out as well.

Like battle academy 2
BA2 is Eastern Front. This one looks like Western Front. Also hexes instead of squares.
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

The first scenario takes place on (pre-dawn) D-Day and is a tutorial for learning infantry combat. Heavy Weapons, Tank Combat and Infantry|Tank cooperation are others. Currently, I've been spending all my gaming time learning Strategic Command WW2WAW so this is a nice break. [:)]

Thanks for the screenshots. I guess we'll see how many scenarios it ships with besides the tutorial ones.

Also looks like quite a bit of micromanagement, aiming tank guns, throwing hand grenades, etc. I will have to try it out. Thankfully, it is turn based.

Thanks again to everyone for the heads-up on this game!

It certainly does! And I probably have the Matrix game in my catalog, long abandoned.

This is the only forum I frequent every night. And the reason is people like "K" and many others.

Thanks for pointing this out.

Interesting game.

Everybody can try it, there is a demo and the game has been released today in Early Access at GBP 29,95 / EUR 33,95 - no idea what they charge in USD or other currencies,

The demo is absolutely worth a try!
5 missions, three of them basic tutorial, but the last two a little more interesting.
All demo missions are playable as British / Commonwealth only.
Free so no reason not to try.

Tank mechanics imo sell the game, lot of potential.

The EA version has 13 missions (that’s including those of the demo)
3 (basic tutorial) that can only be played as the British / Commonwealth
10 that can be played from either side.

The theatre is Normandy ‘44.

No mp
No editor
No skirmish
At least not yet…

If you enjoy the demo, you might enjoy the EA release as well.

Appears to be a British developer and publisher.

I know this is Matrix (I love you guys, really I do) but this game IMO has the potential (note potential) to be one of the best tactical wargames since Steel Panthers and games of that kind, but it needs many more maps, skirmish mode, editor, units and maybe mod support to fulfill that potential. Needless to say it also needs MP/PBEM.

…get the demo, play and decide for yourself.

Just one tip once you start playing the final two demonmissions.
Learn when to wait, learn how to target (if you can target and hold your shot to the next turn you greatly increase accuracy and get the option of aimed fire - nice touch) and optimize flanking and/or ambushing.

True to its name I think the main star is armor.

Get demo, play it [:D]
