Admin failures and penalties

Post by Stamb »

What does [penalty:X] means?

So even 1 admin failure is enough for a unit to not get any supply at all, even if it is right (left) next to him? I though there are multiple checks for a supply request.

Edit.
Image is huge, i have no idea how to fit it on a forum, can we get a spoiler?

And this division was able to get freight despite getting 2 admin failures on top of penalty 1

A little off top:

Looks like spoiler can be added, would be really useful.

as ever its not a linear system but there are a number of parts:

a) you use HQ priority to set what % of supply (various types) the unit wants

So if its current fuel stock for eg is > than this level, it doesn't go looking for anything

b) freight is allocated in blocks.

b1) every unit (even pri 0) tries to get 30%, so that is the first admin test;
b2) every unit at pr1+ tries to get 50% (I forget the actual numbers but this is broadly right), so that is the second admin test;
b3) every unit at pri2 tries to get 70% (again not sure this is exactly right), so that is the third admin test.
b4) and so on.

Several consequences to this - first everyone tries to get a bare minimum, so the first freight allocation is pretty random (again assuming they have less in the unit than is set by their supply priority). Units on a higher priority get more chances to gain the freight they need.

Related issue this is why suppressing demand can work out well, by the time pri 3 units are looking for their freight the local stocks may well have been allocated out

So this unit has 3 tests and failed 2 but not such a problem as it mostly has what it needs (supply priority)

Thanks for the answers. What about first picture? I do not want to display it as it creates enormous horizontal scroll

Wait... so... a unit on priority 1 does two admin checks: one check to see if it gets 30% and one check to see if it gets 50%?

What happens if he fails the first check but succeeeds for the second check? Does it get 50%? 30%? 20%?

I assumed that it goes like this:
- All units first roll for their 30% supply.
- Then all units in priority 1 or more roll for their 50%.
- Then all units in priority 2 or more roll for their 70%.
- ...

But then you would never get more supply if you lower the priority (given equal rolls).

So, does it go like this?
- All units on priority 0 roll for their 30% supply.
- If there is still supply left, all units in priority 1 roll for their 30% and then their 50%.
- If there is still supply left, all units in priority 2 roll for their 30% and then their 70%.
- ...

That would mean that units with higher priority come last in line...

in some circumstances.

You are looking just at one side of the equation (when does a unit try to get supply) and ignoring the other half - how much supply does a unit try to get.

So Pri 0 formations want 30% of their need, that what you have set as a cap. If it has say 40% it doesn't go looking for freight leaving it all to higher priority formations

The other bit to bear in mind is that every one tries for 30% of need, some don't make an effort (as they have this). So by the time you get to priority 3, its limited to the sample of units you set, that are under 90% of need. Now it maybe that none of the lower priority units in that sector have even tried to gain more supply

If that is true, then why does the logistics phase begin with supplying units on the highest priority? In the progress log on the lower right side of the screen.

because within each sub-phase (pri 0, 1 etc) then there is still a small hierachy so higher priority go first in each segment

Let's assume that we have 4 units that all draw supply from the same depot which holds 95 supply.

Let's assume they all units succeed their admin rolls.

Let's assume that each unit needs 100 supply.

Finally, let's assume that...
Unit A is set to priority 0 and has 20 supply.
Unit A' is set to priority 0 and has 40 supply.
Unit B is set to priority 1 and has 20 supply.
Unit C is set to priority 2 and has 20 supply.
Unit D is set to priority 3 and has 60 supply.

Does it work like this (option A)?

Step 1.
- Unit D doesn't get supply, because it already has 30% of it's need.
- Unit C gets 10 supply. It now has 30, 30% of it's needs.
- Unit B gets 10 supply. It now has 30, 30% of it's needs.
- Unit A gets 10 supply. It now has 30, 30% of it's needs.
- Unit A' doesn't get supply, because it already has 30% of it's need.

Step 2.
- Unit D doesn't get supply, because it already has 50% of it's need.
- Unit C gets 20 supply. It now has 50, 50% of it's needs.
- Unit B gets 20 supply. It now has 50, 50% of it's needs.
- Unit A and A' don't try to get more supply because they are set to priority 0 and only check if they need to roll for the 30%.

Step 3.
- Unit D get's 20 supply. It now has 70, 70% of it's needs.
- Unit C gets 5 supply because there is only 5 supply left.
- Unit B doesn't try to get more supply because it is set to priority 1 and only check if it needs to roll for the 30% and the 70%.
- Unit A and A' don't try to get more supply because they they are set to priority 0 and only check if it needs to roll for the 30%.

Is that correct?

aye, that captures the core parts of the system

as ever the focus then falls on the bits you can control in terms of setting demand and, as far as feasible, getting the freight into that location
