Negative defense bonus effect on attacking

Post by Laurenz »

So the manual sates:
Land units have their attack values halved when they are attacking from
terrain with a negative defense bonus value.

This is very unclear to me. Does that mean all land units have their attack values halved if any defense bonus is negative? So does a corps suffer from halved attack values when attacking from a marsh? Or does this only apply to planes?

And how does this interact with the defense bonus from fortifications? If the defense bonus of the fortification is higher then the tile, it takes precedent, otherwise it adds +1. Does this factor in at all into attacks?

As I understand this now:

A corps attacking from a marsh hex: attack halved
A tank attacking from a marsh hex: attack halved
A bomber attacking from a marsh hex: attack halved

A corps/tank attacking from a marsh hex with fortification in direction of attack: ???
A corps/tank attacking from a marsh hex with fortification in different direction than attack: ???

Do planes have attack directions?

-> Is just every attack form every unit in a marsh halved? And if yes is this additive or mulitplicative with river bonuses.

I think that covers it

Hi

Only land units have their attack values halved if attacking out of a marsh. Air units don't, though their supply value will be lower and therefore that is how the marsh will reduce their combat effectiveness.

The fortification is only included in the calculation for the defender, so if the defender is occupying one then they receive a defense bonus.

If the attacker is occupying a fortification their attack value is still halved as they will have to leave the fortification in order to attack.

If attacking across a river then the attacker will be penalised for that too.

I hope that makes sense and answers all your questions?

Quick question about forts: do forts help against amphibious attacks at all and if so does the direction of the fortification help vs amphibious attacks i.e. does a fort facing against a sea hex do better on defense than a fort not facing the sea hex from which the amphibious attack comes?
