Best units to destroy enemy planes

What is the best plane for bombing enemy planes / airfields? I am looking to destroy enemy planes on my turn.

It's really hard to destroy enemy air steps with air strikes. You might get one or two. Mostly you will destroy readiness, which impacts how effective enemy air formations will be when they strike.

This has been a topic of discussion. The massive alpha strikes into russia that destroyed 1000s of aircraft on the ground aren't really modeled in WP.

Destroying planes isn't the issue, it's killing pilots. The plane almost doesn't matter.

1944 Germany produced 40,000 planes....
Their air force peaked at 5,000 aircraft.
They were short on pilots and fuel.
