I thought the altitude setting of 5000 ft for the ground attacks was odd since I seem to recall that there's something about dive bombers not really being as efficient below 9000, and you do have a lot of those at hand on Turn 1. I may misremember or it may no longer be the case, but when I changed that (after an initial few test runs where I went by the numbers on your setup), my losses inflicted did seem to go up by several hundred dead Soviet planes.
...

the cut off altitude is 5k, at or above they dive to 1k for the actual attack so its a good choice

overall, really impressive bit of analysis

As always: Thanks, Loki! I don't know where my aging brain got the 9000 from. Just RNG, then.

And I agree: Zovs did one HECK of a job with this guide!

Followed your air instructions for turn 1. Killed just over 4100 air units on the latest version. These instructions will be my start from now on. Thanks for your time and effort.

PS. I wonder if strategy gaming dojo would do an episode on this?

Thanks Zov, this is great - While I wasn't able to hit 4000, I had a very decent opening.

One question - what do you use for doctrine settings after T1?

Thanks!

Following patch 1.02.13 Husi airbase, the pivot of many rumanian air command raids, no longer exists on the map (not built before 1943) do you plan to adjust your directives?

Anyway great job zovs many many thanks.

Yes I’ll have to revisit my document and update.

From T2 onwards it’s situational dependent. Mostly I set GS and create Recon missions and will run Naval Patrols when needed. If I do NP I generally like to do 1) Recon 2) Air Superiority 3) Naval Patrol.

I am running v 1.02.13 and changed Husi airport staging airport to Tecuci.

This is my best result so far.

Thanks Zovs. Used this and it was great. I actually learned how to do air ops by going through the step by step process you wrote.

It was removed several patches back. Just make a few minor adjustments and you'll be fine. You can also see what I did with the default AD in CG41. Its pretty close to how I made the document, except that Joel wanted to have the Recon and GS missions in the setup.

Not a lot. Zovs efforts got incorporated into the set up position of the game (IIRC) which would save keying in the data, but recent changes to the interception odds have made a lot of what he wrote redundant.

The starting set up has been modified to eliminate deep raids which were unescorted and vulnerable to interception. Thus the new starting orders are not too bad. They can be improved upon by amending:

Cancel any recon on first turn (it doesn't help)
Change bomb loads to max number of small bombs
add fuel tanks to fighters and then you can add/allow some longer range raids
target fighters in the air phase (bombers will fly unescorted in the ground phase and die anyway, which also kills the pilot) and airfields to the south (AGA doesn't fight in the first turn so the Soviet southern front planes don't fly in the movement phase, thus need destroying in the air phase). There is a theory that only bombing raids in the south should be made, thus killing the maximum number of Soviet pilots but I prefer to make the easy raids on Soviet fighters on the ground.
Increase number of raids on Odessa to 3 or 4 (make sure that the bombers are escorted with planes with added fuel tanks). An unescorted raid into the Crimea (the one set up but not activated) is a good idea (you will take casualties but they are only Roms!) but change to a low priority raid to ensure that it flies last.

Yes it is, I just found out that Google changed something in June or July and broke everything.

let me try to fix it, and it will be in the first post again.
