I am currently placing units on the map for my Nordwind scenario, it is a big "buggy", frustrating.

How is it buggy? I mean if you don't explain the problem, no-one is going to fix it.

The buttons occasionally disappear, sometimes the buttons are non-selectable (greyed out) when not appropriate, then I get error messages with CTD results.

Let us know what you are experiencing. Norwind should be an excellent scenario, and I just saw your map on the other post and people ready to help.

I've gone fairly deep into the Simple Editor, and it is really amazing what can be done using the options included in the "Tables" menu alone. But creating a historical battle and making significant changes to the map itself takes knowledge and talent. So I give you credit for taking on the challenge!
