Yugoslavia decision

For Germany, is getting Yugo on your side as an Axis minor worth losing the opportunity to set up to attack Russia from Rumania at the outset of Barbarossa?

I tend to think no... but if you have done a med strategy and have Gibraltar, then it's possible in preparation for a 42 Barb. Tough to pull off I know...

for me its a matter of taking Greece, and then align Yugoslavia

the units are good for partisan duty.

Don't loose May/Jun 1941 for mopping up Greece to Align Yugoslavia if you plan to win Barbarossa.
Greece done pre May/Jun 1941 Barbarossa = Fine.

I am talking about aligning Yugo. To do that Rumania must be aligned first and to do that, Russia must be DoW by the Axis. This sequence does not allow Germany to build up force in Rumania prewar.

Nothing is seldom as simple as it first appears in MWIF. There is at least one chain of events that allows you to align Yugoslavia, and to place German forces in Rumania before Germany DOW USSR.

- USSR demands Bessarabia
- Germany allows the Soviet demand.
- Germany declines the territorial claims on Rumania by Hungary, and Bulgaria.
- Rumania aligns with Germany as a full ally.
- Germany DOW, and conquers, Hungary. Germany now has a route to reinforce Rumania.
- Germany DOW, and conquers, Bulgaria (might have to be done after war with USSR if USSR has aligned Bulgaria)
- Germany DOW, and conquers, Greece.
- Germany aligns Yugoslavia.

This sequence might be completed before Germany goes to war with USSR if USSR does not bother to align Bulgaria.

you dont need Rumania as a full ally. you can aligh Rumania after DOW on Russia

and have Italy take out greece. with some help.

but the point is that you have to align Yugoslavia late (like 42), to get as much free units as possible.

Barbarossa 41, attack URSS first after Greece and last align Yugoslavia. Barbarossa 42, my favourite: 1940, attack France (with Italy attacking south or north Africa;1940 or 1941,conquer France or collapse Vichy ,attack Spain, conquer Gibraltar, conquer Suez;late 1941 or early 1942,attack Greece, align Yugoslavia;summer 42, attack URSS. If you get it, Axis Wins!

These are all very inciteful. I never thought of the path Orm suggests. In my current game, Germany took our Greece with Italian assistance. Bulgaria and Hungary have been aligned in Jan 41. I was surprised that I could not align Rumania as yet, but now realise why... hence my question. I will be declaring Barbarossa May/June of 41 and then draw in Rumania and Yugo. Russia has realized this (though it is a solitary game, and so is slightly lessening border defensive against Rumania for a more forward defense on the border of Southern Poland.

By the way, will there be partisans in Yugoslavia if it is activated as an Axis minor?
