Best SP wargame

Post by boldairade »

delete if not allowed

sometimes i have half an hour but my opponent hasn't finished his turn.

what game should i play? i only play one MP game at a time, so it'd have to be SP.

It's ok if it isn't a wargame, as long as it's turn based.

Just thought i'd ask what fellow warplanners were playing

Well if you haven't played Strategic Command that is probably the closest thing to warplan but just like warplan much better MP than SP.

Other turn based games I've played recently are: Civ 5/6, Shadow Empire, Field of Glory Empires, Panzer Corps 2, warhammer 40k gladius, WitE2

I'd say play a turn-based RPG.

WPP?

Is WPP a good SP game?

I LOVE WP but I find SP not nearly as exciting.

I liked FoG Empires. It has some interesting ideas around "decadence" and trying to make having a large empire more challenging. Its definitely more of a empire builder and the army mechanics are pretty simple.

I am currently trying to get used to a game called Song of Syx. It is a lone indie developer, and it's a very cool city/empire builder.

I think the game is pretty good, but honestly, the barrier to entry is just extraordinarily high. I've spent 5 hours with it over the last 6 months or so, and I just can't figure out a lot of basic stuff.

I bring this up because it seems like this happens a lot these days. There is wonderful complexity and features that those of us who don't love AAA titles crave. And generally I couldn't care less about graphics, as long as they are clear.

But what seems to be lacking is a portal of entry into these really deep games. They generally don't have a manual, and often the tutorial is either lacking or perhaps even absent.

The new mode of learning these games seems to be discord-a medium that for some reason I just cannot consistently navigate. And when I do, since the information is coming from third party sources, one never knows if it is accurate or not. Folks seem awfully comfortable with 'answering' a question with a guess or opinion while presenting it as a fact. I can't imagine why(ego?), but there you have it.

I really don't mind in depth games-I love this one for instance, and there's a lot more depth to WP than a lot of 'reviewers' give it credit. I'd just like a means to learn about said depth.

Interesting. Looks kind of like RimWorld which I've played a decent amount. I'll have to give it a try.

I think a lot of smaller games just don't have enough devs to create decent tutorials and tend to rely more on people just playing the game a lot to learn it. Personally I care less about tutorials and prefer in-game tooltips/wiki/etc so I can easily find all the information without opening an often outdated manual or having to post on discord/forum for basic things.
