New Book, Gunner?
Bart,
I've run out of reading material. I'm up to date on Bond and Clancy, and I've read your book, so I'm floundering. My daughter recently bought me a Stephen King novel. I don't read that stuff. I want WAR stuff.
So, what's the deal? Where's this new book of yours? Please don't make me read Stephen King! <lol>

We're working on it...[8D]
Now if you put a positive spin on it, the next Game of Thrones book still isn't out! That one has been 10 years in the waiting.
I can say that we are making progress and we are reasonably sure the light at the end of the tunnel isn't an oncoming train... so a little more patience is needed.
I would pass on the Stephen King as well, have started some good Vietnam stuff, Douglas Edwards, John Podlaski and Mark Treanor were under the tree for me this year.[;)]

RE: New Book, Gunner?
Thanks for asking, DWReese. Bart's too kind to say that the delay is my fault. I've been in the most challenging season of my career for the past couple of years, which has put a cramp on our writing, but that's (successfully) behind me now and we're getting back on track.

G'Day DWReese,
Try David Poyer's Dan Lenson series of modern naval warfare - there are about 14 of them in the series.
Or John J Gobbell for WW2 - a good introduction to modern warfare and tactics origins.
There is one that I know of by H J Riker on the Virginia class SSN.
Philip McCutchan writes a good series of war stories, including some naval.
I recommend Poyer's books - he's a retired naval officer who can write a good yarn.

Thank you for the tips. I'll definitely try some of them, for sure. In fact, the Poyer/Dan Lenson series sounds just about perfect.
Thanks again.

Gunner and Airborne Rifles,
Obviously, my post was written tongue in cheek, and with an obvious slant toward humor. It was really just my way of telling you that you have an anxiously-awaiting public, and to also try to get am update as to when we might expect the new book.
I'm sorry about any personal issues that have arisen for both of you. These are trying times, and it is certainly understandable. For what it is worth, I don't believe that Larry Bond has published anything new in the last two or three years either, so there is no harm with your situation.
Thanks again for the update.

The Associated Press just wrote an article that states that The White House has stated that a Russian invasion of Ukraine could occur any day now.
Let's see, the Winter Olympics begin on February 4th, 16 days from today. Perhaps it's possible that Vladimir might have read your book and got an idea? Hmmm.

"David Poyer's Dan Lenson series of modern naval warfare"
I'll second those. Great books. If you like ABM warfare the last few have some very detailed battle scenes involving ABM shoots. If you search Dan Lenson on this forum, they've been mentioned a few times before.

Just hate it when fiction and non-fiction get all messed up on the library shelf [;)]

Take as long as you need fellas. The quality must come first.

DW, If you are looking for suggestions I offer: Harold Coyle, Leonard B Scott, James H. Cobb, and Richard Herman. Not the most recent, but among my favorites.
RE: New Book, Gunner?
Thanks for the recommendations. I will look into those.

It's non-fiction, but I recently read Fleet Tactics and Naval Operations (third edition). Excellent read, made me look at naval warfare in a different light.
RE: New Book, Gunner?
Apologies if I missed it in the book, but who wins the 1992 POTUS election in the NF timeline? I remember that the introduction makes it sound like neither candidate did particularly well.

TempestII, we have left it deliberately ambiguous in our story. Maybe it was one of the historical candidates, maybe some other candidate who wasn't in the historical election at all. In my mind I think I know who won in our story, but for various reasons we'd rather leave it to interpretation.

That book is a treat. So is "Learning War: The Evolution of Fighting Doctrine in the US Navy, 1898-1945". It's not strictly relevant to CMO, but it does a good job of tracing the USN from a second- or third-rate navy to a world power.

That's fair enough, thanks for the clarification.
