Tunnel Rats

How do you determine whether its a cache or enemy units. I wasn't sure what to do, but finally assaulted with the tunnel rat unit when it moved and it was a cache, the next time i assaulted the unit was wiped out. Is there any determination whether its a cache or unit? Am i supposed to use recon reveal?

It's dark and cramped inside those tunnels, filled with surprises. You never know what lurks around the next corner, or at the next lower level. Fog of War!!
