Combat reports lift the Fog of War?

When I take a look at the combat reports, I'm told the exact hex the fire is originating from? Is this intended?

Yes. I believe in 3D you have animations revealing this information too, while in 2D this report is all you have.

Is this intended?

I also noticed that during the enemy turn, the game zooms in and shows rectangles on enemy movements...

The rectangles would show up if the unit moves in your Line of Sight, if I recall

In the same vein, I noticed that hexes with trenches seem to have their concealment and morale modifiers altered. You can see that even if your units are not aware of the trench yet.
