Missing all my carriers!

Post by rockmedic109 »

I am missing all my carriers, battleships and most of my CAs. They are at Manila. They show up in the ship list and are at Manila on the ship list. They are not on the Manila list of ships, I cannot create a Carrier task force.

Is their an upper limit to the number of ships that can be at a port?

I have tried different saves of same day, yesterday, begining of the month {it is the 4th of FEB} and Jan 28.

I will restart the game and try again.

Restarting did not change anything.

I created two 100 ship task forces just in case there was a limit on ships in a port. No change.

I can create an escort task force, put carriers in it and then switch it to air combat.

Someone playing the Allies in late war had ships in SFO go missing. Turned out the problem was he had over 1000 ships - more than the game can handle display for. He had to move some ships to Alameda so he could see the other ships at SFO.

The other problem could be that if you started with a SCTF and were trying to add carriers to make an ACTF, the game will not show the stood-down carriers because you cannot add carriers to a SCTF. You found the workaround - change the SCTF to an Escort TF which will accept any ship type and after the CVs are in it, change it to an ACTF.

If you started with a click on the anchor representing the port and your CVs did not display, I suspect the "too many ships" problem or the memory leak problem that has the same effect - stuff does not display because memory is full.

Thank You.

It's probably the too many ships. I did not know about the 1000 ship limit.

I did not try to start a SCTF. I created two 100 LST barge task forces, but I guess I had over 1200 ships in Manila. I did not try to add carriers to it. I think the program starts with CV category and works it's way down the list from there for what it will stop showing. Had a sudden fear of loosing a game in 1945 to a glitch. Ouch.

Simple work around is create an escort task force put the carriers in it and then switch it to ACTF.

Of course having that many ships in one bay might be a little much. Visions of Valet ship parking and having to move a couple hundred LSTs out of the way to get that one DD you want to go into a task force. With everything else that was thought of in this game, I am surprised an extra port collision chance wasn't put in for having too many ships at port.

Oops. Now I just gave somebody an idea.....
