Guards TBs not building into Guards TC (Beta)

I've tried forming Guards Tank Corps out of 2 Guards TBs and one Motorised brigade without success. I noticed an issue back in earlier versions where you needed to breakdown and buildup the new TC to get it to convert to Guards, but that doesn't work either (probably because subunits no longer keep their won/loss record).

What date is it? If its before December 1942 then that is WAD. You can only start building Guard Tank Corps in December of 1942.

Yes, it should be in the living manual. Was changed a few versions ago.

Ok, turns out this is a problem after all. Once I hit December 42 I got a series of TC->GTC promotions and thought all was well. Then in March 43 I collected some more GTBs to build GTCs. The interface did not recognise 2 GTB + 1 MotB as producing a GTC, and built TCs instead. Deploying them, breakdown, and rebuild and they stayed TCs. Only possibility I can think of is this is disallowed when you already have greater than the max Guards motorised percentage - I'm at 27% in Mar43. Manual says 35% is max, but suspect it's now in gradations over time.

In the attached save I've played on until April, and got a GTC promotion from wins, so I definitely have room for more GTCs at 29% Guards motorised. 2 GTBs and an MotB available to form a GTC, instead they create a TC.

Does the manual say that you can build guards tank corps by using guards brigades? Is there another way to do it in the game? Maybe it's WAD that you have to earn tank corps guards status?

Huh. Well, no, it's not in the manual, but it definitely used to be possible, and is mentioned in the pearls of wisdom.

Hi, can I get confirmation that there's a fix for this in the works? I've just realised any Soviet player heading into '43 with a decent number of Guards Tank Brigades will have to scrap them in order to let his Tank Corps promote to Guards. Which is a touch ridiculous.

When modding the TOE(OB), I found some issue with the Guards Tank Corps. I think one of them may also be the possible cause of this reported problem as well, see https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 8#p4969428.

My guess is that in one patch (1.02.01?), TOE(OB) for 42a guards tank corps was removed and caused the associated links to break.

Excellent work, and well spotted! I've not used the editor before - is it fairly straightforward for me to fix it myself as a workaround?

Modifying the data is easy, but I guess it works only for new games. My understanding is that data changes usually will not take effect in ongoing games. (Anyway, I attached the mod file - simply unzip, backup and replace the file [game directory]\Dat\GenData\w_ob.dat)

Thanks for pointing out the issue and the solution. We've made the change to the OB file and hope to release with a new beta version next week. Unfortunately as it's a data issue, only games started with the new file will create guards tank corps when you use 2 guards brigades.

I take it there's no safe way to edit a save file directly, to remove GTBs and replace with GTCs? I'll have to mull this over. I've reached Dec '42, and I have a full Guards allocation of Armour in GTBs (they were all attached to my very busy GCCs), so will have to make the ugly choice between disbanding GTBs or sticking with plain Tank Corps.
