Disappearing units - editor

Post by shsober »

Can anyone help me? Sometimes when I am about to load an LCU onto a convoy that doesn't have enough capacity, the LCU disappears! I've lost two of my heaviest Japanese units.

I have the 2.1 editor but can not get it to open a file.

TIA

That's quite a bug: what is supposed to happen is that the LCU is divided and the "sub-unit" is automatically loaded on to the transports. (It sometimes happened that the "sub-unit" ended up much larger than the "original" unit.)

What version of Excel is installed on your computer? From my experience Excel 97 should work, but anything earlier is a problem. If Excel is up to date, maybe you are not entering the correct path to the file?
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

Thanks for your reply!

I'm using Excel 2000. I've checked the path and the filename.

I did not load the unit after I realized that I didn't have enough transport. When I went back to the troop display, the whole unit was gone. I believe I'm maxed out on divided units and that may be part of the problem. I would love to get the editor working...

Depending on version using, when they spiffed it up they in one version put in so many extra units that they used up many of the spare slots so what occurs is you try splitting when no slots left and program removes the unit from game..

3.2 I believe is fixed it I think was earlier versions, however if have an editor you might delete out some of the japanese units they had added in, some allied too to free up slots for splitting units.

It was a case of trying to revamp version and add in more units that they overlooked that the blank slots were there for dividing units..

Why not use GEdit ? Donno if it can solve the problem, but I think it should.

I had same problem as Japanese in one PBEM game. I managed to locate when this bug appears, it's when you try to load LCU on ships and than hit ESC (to cancel action) and , at a same time, you have maximum LCUs available. In that case, the unit which you tried to load will dissapear and reaper in several months in Tokiyo, as it was destroyed in combat. in my experience, there's nothing you can do to fix this, 'cause in PBEm games editor won't work (encrypted data) [:(].
In solo games it shoud not be a problem to easily place unit anywhere on the map...

I use v2.1 of the editor with Excel 2000 and have no probs. Have you activated the Macros?

The GEeditor shouldn't work because it doesn't show land units as far as I remember.
Please ensure that the patch to savefile is correct or specify what error message is showing up while attempting to open the save"x" file.

Or simply send me the file telling which units do You need back.

and
PBEM files can be pretty edited too

If one has Bears Pacedit that works even with the matrix updated versions, I have 1.22 of the editor and works fine (need 1.19 to use his latest version)
