AAR Elefantinho-Forward March (part 2)
24/05/42
People of Germany and liberated territories! Be not deceived by the fact that cyberterrorists in the pay of the NKVD have made disappear the Führer's literary highlights in the previous AAR. In this new thread the never ending sequence of the victories of the invincible Wehrmacht will continue!
The last few weeks have seen clear wheather in which limited attacks were made. The main offensive will be launched as soon as we're sure the rain will not come back, although in some cases panzer commanders could not be restrained any longer.
The air battle rages on continuously with the enemy producing 250 Yaks a turn to replace its heavy losses. The remnants of enemy armour are hiding from the Luftwaffe in their front HQs. Two weeks ago Stalingrad's industrial capacity has been completely destroyed, which was followed by desperate enemy attacks against airfields in the far rear, damaging quite some Luftwaffe bombers.
Casualties:
squads: 25830/104393
afvs: 3212/15914
guns: 9930/28281
aircraft: 7846/27428
A map of the front will be released as soon as the offensive starts.

Our enemy faces a rejuvenated Soviet Army. Infantry corps strength is massive, while tank armies stand ready to meet any enemy thrust. The rain period was quiet allowing our armies to dig in.
Week before last, deep penetration raids were made on Army Groups North, Center, and South catching many aircraft on the ground. Only the Kommandant of AGN had any CAP to cover his bases. Our bomber losses to Flak were light.
Last week, limited counterattacks drove one enemy corps backwards and severely impaired the fighting ability of others.
Our enemy shows limited verve and resolve, while our troops strength grows. His air units can't stop the flow that raises the size of our armies.
Only 5 divisions are now below full infantry strength.
We wait the first rush of panzers with enough strength to cut them off and destroy them. There are rumours that Hitler will request a secret peace before the USAF begins to pound his nation to rubble.

31/05/42 – German radio propaganda broadcast
People of the Greater German Reich and soon to be occupied territories! The GröFaZ has reached his advanced HQ in Vitebsk. Our infantry divisions with strong armour and Luftwaffe support have broken through the enemy defenses at several places. Railroad sidings are jammed with trains unloading troops, including the latest tank models. Back in the Reich wave upon wave of the most modern fighters and bombers can be seen leaving to the east.
OKW announced that the new offensive "will make the opening phase of Barbarossa look insignificant": more than 10.000 panzers, 10.000 planes and 2.5 million men will be unleashed to crush the communists. Worried civilians in the West and Afrika are reassured that massive German forces are available to deal with the capitalist lackeys of Stalin, as the Afrika Korps with 1.000 panzers approaches the Suez Canal.
Previous enemy references to the USAAF demonstrate that the VVS, despite their large fighter production is in trouble, which is confirmed by the severe shortage of Knights Crosses at OKL. The armaments ministry is delighted with the fact the Russian infantry seems up to strength: the more prisoners, the more capacity to melt all those T-34s carcasses into solid Krupp steel!

The weakness of enemy ground forces is underscored by the number of air attacks required to budge one of our corps....seven...can you believe it?...SEVEN!!! There weren't even any tanks, nor more than four infantry divisions in that corps. Our brave soldiers counterattacked along the line, killing thousands of the mewling sons of Hitler.
The weather again turns to rain. Even mother nature hates the Fascists.

Foot soldiers of Russia! Ask yourself why are you pounded repeatedly by our Luftwaffe? How can our pilots resist when those vaunted Yaks, instead of defending you, are kept back to protect the dachas of the Stalinist clique from our long range bombers? Ask yourself why the remainder of your tank force time and time arrives too late from their comfortable shelters in the rear, leaving you alone to struggle in the blood-soaked dirt of Mother Russia against the strongest army ever known to mankind!
So far the rhetoric. Rain, so not much to do. The last armored units assume their true identity as Panzer Korps, having masqueraded as Infantry Korps for many months. The usual air attacks with in the center a splendid training for the Stukas and Bf-110s destroying a hundred unprotected Soviet tanks. My main worries are the upcoming losses to break through the Soviets lines. After that I count on the AI to assign with its usual intelligence the Soviet armor, which Forward March seems to keep at his HQs.

Finally, Tank Armies!!! Last turn, my opponent used to bomb units that tanks had moved into. Now he will discover the true power of mobile Russian Forces. One of the few joys of being Ivan is that large number of Tank divs at your disposal. They're a bit more useful in version 3.3, though. In 3.2 they'll get bombed to smithereens.
My tactics for this 42' will be different from any other game I've played. I've learned in the past that a thick line isn't always successful. (I've never survived 42' as Ivan) So, we'll rely upon our great leaders to throw in fresh troops as Jerry attacks.
Did the Russians have a nickname for the Germans? I know the brits called them "Jerry" and the Yanks called the "krauts"...I know there were titles like fascist and Nazi used by Russians...but something apolitical?
I watched Alexander Nevsky a few weeks ago. It's been hailed as a cinemagraphic masterpiece. Perhaps it was, back then. The thing that struck me funny was that many of the German foot troops had a huge, whole-head-covering helmet that looked amazingly like the stahlhelm of legend.
Anyway, my cyber ivans await the storm.

Your soldiers are kindly invited to use Fritz as a nickname, but we recommend them to refrain from using this term when in captivity since it might reduce dramatically their already short life expectancy.
The first phase of the summer offensive has started. Official objective for 1942 is to break the Red Army using our superior tank forces. Geographic objectives are considered only valueable in case they contribute to weaken the Soviet military or lead to a reduction of the front line.
For a change the turn started with the some airfield attacks on bases near the front, combined with a wave of interdiction attacks, all against strong VVS opposition. Despite heavy Luftwaffe losses quite some Yaks were destroyed on the ground. Terrible losses of Bf-109Fs against the Yak-7B sent shockwaves through the OKL, but the good old Bf-110s once again proved theirselves masters of the battlefield.
Then about half of the panzers were committed and broke through the Soviet lines in front of Voronezh, Tula and Kalinin, with partial success. Enemy units under attack were constantly reinforced by their HQs, severely hindering our progress. To deal with this phenomenon the Wehrmacht is developing new tactics as we speak. German tank losses are "significant", but the enemy will now be forced to move troops out of entrenched positions to avoid encirclement, after which our second wave will finish them off.
Two small questions:
1) With airfield attacks losses reported on the bottom of the screen and in the combat report differ sigificantly. In general the combat report is higher. Why? Does the combat report include damaged planes?
2) Why are losses when doing artillery attacks so high? Seldomly enemy losses exceed those of the attacker. Is this the price to pay to achieve a lower entrenchment?

RE: nicknames
The figures after turn include damaged aircrafts/equipment, while flying they are shown as hit(damaged).
Edit: Uups, didn't read it well. Don't know that too
Don't know about artillery bombing, I use it only against low-artillery troops.

Our silly enemy has allowed 8 PzKorps to be isolated by strong soviet forces. Units out of supply are now certainly back in it as they kill the Hun with socialistic fervor. Tanks jump into the line smashing the enemy forces. Two well entrenched fascist infantry corps were forced from their positions (Finns in German Korps!) While the hard-luck Slovakian corps again took it on the nose and bowed out.
Our foe may have committed only 1/2 of his tanks...but he'll certainly need them to free the other half.
The fascist enemy lost 400 planes during this weeks combat.

21/06/42 – OKW bulletin
The enemy's incapability on the battlefield is only matched by its skills in exaggeration! If Comrade Antonov already gets excited over a loss of 400 planes, casualty statistics for this week for sure will sent him through the roof with delight.
Finally we got the Stalinists exactly where we wanted them: out of their holes, with their air force committed and ready to be slaughtered.
And slaughter it has been! Orel and Voronezh have been retaken by those panzer korps that were allegedly out of supply. The Soviet 1st Belorussian Front has disappeared from the map, including all its subordinated armies. Luftwaffe pilots are not sure anymore whether they are fighting in June 1942 or June 1941 as our new air offensive has exceeded all expectations.
And to once and for all silence the Moscow agitators the following are the German / Soviet casualties this turn:
squads : 1082 / 8283
afvs : 485 / 725
guns : 180 / 1770
aircraft : 758 / 3633

Sometime, July 1942. I think the 15th, but he thinks the 24th. ARe we Reds still using the Gregorian calendar?
Anyway, silly Fritz copped it big this time. His overcommitment of his panzers would put anyone of German blood to tears. 2193 squads killed and captured. 673 tanks on their way to the scrap heap. 1095 guns blasted off their limbers or being re-calibered to fire Soviet ammunition.
Those huge totals come with us only capturing 2 of his corps.
More to follow as reserves enter the fray.

Bolshevik propaganda has sunk so low that even Dr. Goebbels refuses to appear to refute this new stream of inaccuracies, half-thruths and mudslinging. But what do you expect from people that already change their calendar dates to avoid the inevitable!?!? Contrary to the enemy, from our side just the facts, casualty statistics for both sides.
This turn
squads : 687 / 6869
afvs : 316 / 946
guns : 29/ 1901
aircraft : 247 / 1053
Total campaign
squads: 32.766 / 129.902
afvs: 5.352 / 18.653
guns: 12.772 / 33.415
aircraft: 10.003 / 34.373

RE: AAR Elefantinho-Forward March
It was a cavalry division, by the way, and its objective was not so much to remove the HQ but to weaken the supply of the troops west of it which I was about to attack the next turn. Still, I can understand that this is not considered to be nice play, although it is allowed by the rules. Good lesson for me and it's just a game, so I have no problem to replay the turn without attacking anywhere in that area of the front.
