War at Sea - Tokyo Express?

Post by madflava13 »

Has anyone played this game from Killerfish studios? I used to LOVE Task Force 1942 from Microprose way back in the day and this seems like a very similar game. Any thoughts/impressions/gripes/loves?
Thanks!

I've mainly played the vanilla game. It has potential but currently the operational and tactical side are very basic, notably missing are many key historical elements that differentiated the two sides during the campaign.

The "Tokyo Express" mod adds some new ships, aircraft, etc and tries to make the AI a more challenging opponent but it can only do so much with the existing limitations of the base game. Currently its a bit of a turkey shoot for the human player, although the mod does at least give you more and bigger turkeys to deal with.

Nice graphics though. Some of the big battles would be beautiful to watch if you weren't so busy micro-managing your forces.

The developers are still releasing patches and improvements so I still have some hope this game might reach its potential in the future.
This was the only sig line I could think of.

I was looking for the game but found this instead:

Are you sure you got the game name right?
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

Obviously I got it slightly wrong, but that's the game I'm talking about...

From what I have seen on youtube, looks like Microprose Task Force 1942. Except the latter has perhaps more historical depth.
