Stalin interferes too much

Post by Endsieg »

Gentlemen,
Stalin is ruining my first game as Sov'41 PBEM player. He commands too many battles, both primary and secondary! Cant remove him as commander of Stavka and his constant interference keeps Stavka drained of OPs. How does one prevent his meddling, its ahistorical
Help?

well, i guess you could 'cheat' by selecting a hq, pressing ALT-H and assigning it to another hq as an intermediary to stavka. with this option i guess if you wanted you could create your own soviet AGNorth/AGC/AGSouth and perhaps avoid stalin on a much more regular basis. even though i'v never done it myself, i guess extensively changing the sov chain of command in such a manner would be frowned upon by many players; but i myself would file it under the "if you ain't cheatin, you ain't tryin" catagory since the sov's need all the help they can get to keep moscow from falling in '41!

It's not ahistorical. In '41 Stalin meddled every bit as much, if not more, than Hitler.

that is true stalin was responsible for many of the massive soviet defeats early in the war. most of the german encirclements were caused by stalin trying to control the entire war effort. he only started to trust his generals after the battle of stalingrad.

Don't do this unless your opponent agrees it's allowed:

Get all units out of Stavka and remove it by pressing shift-R. Place it again with F6. Stalin will disappear and be replaced with some other (random) general. If you try it long enough and Zhukov is in the pool, you could eventually get him to lead the war effort [;)]

In one of my games I created a "mid-way" HQ with Zhukov, between Stavka and other HQs. Worked fine, Stalin show-ups were only occasional, and Zhukov commanded most of battles.
If it is gamey or not, thats another story.
