Questions on automating, naming, etc

Post by hyperstork67 »

Hello, am considering taking the plunge after watching videos online of how the game tracks individual ships and subs!

Questions:

1) Can I easily automate land forces movement so I can concentrate on the naval game?

2) is there a way to rename all your ships other than editing the scenario before starting?

3) Can menial tasks like supply/transports be automated?

4) can fog of war be turned on or off?

Basically I'm mostly interested in sneaking subs and ships around and harassing enemy shipping, while tracking their damage, etc.

Thanks for any help!

Or would I be better off simulating, say, ship or sub combat in some other naval game (let me know any recommendations, I love the Silent Hunter series but it would take far too long to sim a large number of boats), or even that boardgame (name escapes me) that sims the entire US sub service (the cats would love all those counters, sadly).

Its a long time since I played WITP, but here goes.

1 You can change command of "Commands" to the AI, very much at your own risk.

2 Why would you change names, this is War in the Pacific, not War in Narnia. But the editor does allow you to rename or create anything you want.

3 Supplies are vita;, your ships will have no fuel or ammo if you ignore it. But you can create AI controlled convoys tp lessen the load

4 I'm sure there is a FoW button in setup.

IMVHO, this isnt the game you are after, but give it a good try, you might find the bigger picture interesting.

I am having fun with it. Started with AI playing both sides, but quickly jumped in as the US as I was seeing there were potential convoy routes their subs should be targeting. Then I realized my surface ships could also use that. Then realized I needed more escort ships pooling at San Francisco. Then I needed better patrol patterns for ASW as they weren't very focused. Then started moving forces from Manila as it was surrounded. Then...
