What War in the East 1943 looks like on the tabletop

Post by RFalvo69 »

At Winterfest 2022 a group of determined players put down OCS "OSTFRONT" September 1943 - April 1944 and managed to play it. This is not a single game but the combination of four OCS games from MMP which, together, cover the East Front from Finland to Crimea. Three of these games, "Crimea", "Forgotten Battles" (AGC) and "Hero City" (AGN) are yet to be published, but they look ready and I guess this was a great opportunity for playtesting. The final aim will be for everybody to combine the four games and play the WitE - at least this part - at 1:1 scale...

The vista is breathtaking and makes games like "Fire in the East/Scorched Earth" look introductory. I can only guess the determination needed to play a monster like this one.

Amateurs. That's what herr Hitler did twice a day in his nefarious situation conferences. Ranting and raving included.

Thanks for sharing.

Multiman Publishing has already two other games set in this area: "Guderian's Blitzkrieg II" covers AGC from Typhoon to Operation Mars, while "Case Blue" covers... AGS from 1941 to early 1943. There are already rules to combine these two (I downloaded the VASSAL module and stared at it in awe for a while).

Then we have the already published "Hungarian Rhapsody" about the battles for5 Hungary in 1944.

I wouldn't be surprised if Multiman Publishing endgame would be to design enough games to be able to play the war in the East 1941-45 at the scale seen in that video. They have already games in various stages of design about Bagration, Summer 1943 (the Germans are not forced to proceed with Kursk) and Berlin 1945. If so, it would be a fifteen years commitment and something for a museum, I guess. I mean, if that video shows OSTFRONT (something that they are doing) how many people will be able to put that down?

I would never play this game. However, imagine........

A wargame projected onto a screen covering a whole wall in a house.
Fog of war is "OFF" for the spectators
The players are sitting in lounge chairs.
The players are wearing a special pair of goggles which for the players means that fog of war is "ON".

That would work!
