I wonder if that is one of his AVs that can carry and launch aircraft at sea.

Re: Variants - Allied side - NO Xargun pleas
Mouse over says 2 CV with 28 fighters and 59 bombers. I have been burned before
by a sighting that is near to the limit of my search.

The TF showing aircraft has disappeared for now.
P-38Gs shot down 2 Tojos over Makassar. Recon shows no aircraft at Makassar now.
Only 4 rose to defend.

With no fighters showing at Makassar I gave my B-25D1 attack bombers orders to attach shipping
but I gave them a bit too much leeway on distance. They proceeded to attack a TK TF at Balikpapan.
We both lost 3 aircraft in that fray, he lost 3 Tojos and I lost 2 B-25D1s and 1 P-38G
Morning Air attack on TF, near Balikpapan at 64,97
Weather in hex: Severe storms - this is probably why they did not do so good on attack

A sweep of Makassar met no resistance and recon still shows no aircraft there
so it is time for a surge to close the airfield down
It is a clear terrain hex so I should be able to get a lot of good hits
I have 60 B-25D1s attacking at 5000 feet, 23 B-17Es and 36 B-24D1s attacking at 10,000 feet
It should be a fun time, except for the defenders of Makassar.

Interesting and some context
Mataram is the hex in the Yellow box. It is destined to be the jump of
base for conquest of Java. Notice the results of a recon of Tjilatjap.
Mataram has a port SPS of 1 and an airfield SPS of 5. So it can be a size

continues to not man Tjilatjap it could move to the top of the list.

June 30, 1943
Weather cleared over Makassar and all the bombers flew
Airfield was hit again, next turn both port and airfield will be targeted.
B-25D1s hit troops, mostly disablements with a very few destroyed, but as the disablements rise the destroyed will increase
Units identifies so far are 18th JNAF BF, 48th Naval Guard, 5th Amphibious Brigade and recon shows 3 unit there
At Mataram we swept another 23 mines, that is 27 so far and the enemy mine symbol is gone.
I thought there might be a few more mines.
The engineers have completed a size one airfield, should go to size 2 tomorrow.
You have to love the American Engineering units.
-========================================================
As I expected the KB has moved away, I have no sighting on it today.
Just for the heck of it, I send a mixed bag of 4 DDs on a high sped run into Soerabaja
to see what happens
Let me know if this shows up too big, it is fine on my computer but .....
This shows the search arcs in the this area, I have things pretty much covered

Code: Select all
Ki-49-IIb Helen max load is 2205
Type 3 mine has a load of 352
2205 / 352 = 6+
5 bombers laying mines should equal 30 mines
Maybe some disbursed

I should talk a little about the variant items that show up in July 1943
First, I normally start getting the P-47D2 at 56 planes per month, I still do
But, I also start getting 175 P-47D25 per month for the next 15 months.
In addition, I received two size 75 P-47D25 air groups. One is on a very fast
xAP to Aden and the other is on the train to San Diego where it will embark
a boat to Australia. They also came with 15 spares, so I got 180 P-47D25s.

More bombing of Makassar, a few destroyed elements, some supply hits
I am concerned to see the D4Y4 Judy in operation, those 800kg bombs are deadly to ships
The only good thing is they have a range of 6 carrying that big bomb
So I know there are 2 CVs around Manado and there were some number of
CV/CVL/CVEs around Soerabaja a few turns ago.

One last item before the next turn. I am actively seeking a confrontation with some of his CVs
In the picture you can see two TFs 1 hex East of Manado, both have aircraft showing on the mouse over
But they can not be the entire KB. I am not really sure how many aircraft he has available there, but
there were a number of CVs off of Java a few turns ago and they have not had time to move to the
hex off of Manado.
The path of my DS is shown in the picture. I will be 7 hexes from Manado during the day air phase.
I might get a chance to hit some of his CVs. I do hope if it happens he does not surrender, but anything
is possible.

Funny, just few minutes after my last post a new turn shows up.
He did not move as expected, so no CV - CV battles, if fact not much happened today.
DD La Triomphant made it to Mataram today and is now moving to the repair shipyards in SE Australia.
The TF with the highly damaged DDs made four hexes toward Mataram today and all lowered their
floatation damage a few points. I think they will all make it today, they are two hexes away from Mataram.
SS sunfish sighted the TF with BB Kirshima in hex 75,97 two hexes North of Manado. It then seems to have disappeared
I did get this naval search intel
In addition I bombed Makassar, more supply hits, more disablements, and a few more destroyed elements.

Not much happened, bad weather socked a lot and my naval search did not show much anywhere.
some bombing at Makassar, but that is all
My three battered DDs made it to Mataram and will repair most minor damage before proceeding
So I did not lose any ships to mines at Soerabaja.

Something to consider is that the P-47D2 is not the best P47 that I have
While the P-47D25 is better, it is not hugely better, but since both are
better that what he is fielding it is good. Some P-47D25s will be in action
very soon.

I almost forgot, Hollandia switched sides without any warfare.

Re: Variants - Allied side - NO Xargun pleas
I don't usually look closely at aircraft specs, but it seems to me that a 400'/minute better climb rate and 2 hours more on station time (endurance is in minutes, no?) is significant!
No matter how bad a situation is, you can always make it worse. - Chris Hadfield : An Astronaut's Guide To Life On Earth
Re: Variants - Allied side - NO Xargun pleas
It is definitely better, but more an incremental increase in many stats. It is not like moving from F4F-4 to F6F-3, which is a huge change in ability.

I swept Soerabaja, but he didn't put any aircraft up on CAP.
I landed a small force on Taberfane to take care of a small infestation of Japanese.
