Frequent CTDs

Post by Williamb »

The game starts with no problems. Able to set up my universe and select race and game options

Once I hit start game all is still good. But then after I get to the first screen and I see my faction's information it is OK until I hit the "Let's Go: button.

When the game zooms in from the galaxy map to my home planet it crashes. Not all the time and it seems to happen fewer times when I start with a smaller galaxy.

I think the problem starts as the game starts unpaused. I think it expects a pop-up.

Also, the game loading screen is a blinking nightmare.

My specs:

System Manufacturer: Razer

BIOS: 1.02 (type: UEFI)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10750H CPU @ 2.60GHz (12 CPUs), ~2.6GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 16248MB RAM

Windows Dir: C:\Windows
DirectX Version: DirectX 12
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
User DPI Setting: 120 DPI (125 percent)

OK, I managed to get one of the save games to load up. I was playing with no problems. Then I tried to zoom out using the mouse wheel. And I got a CTD. So it is the zoom feature that is broken. It crashed as I tried to scroll out from my homeworld.

OK after frequent stops and starts I think I have a culprit. It seems to be an audio file. When it zooms in close the audio sound tries to kick in. It is the ambient sound file.

You sure the game is running on discrete graphics, and not integrated?

Sorry, I am not tech-savvy enough to tell.

During the galaxy generation screen, it seems to have a ship graphic bleed through and flash during the generation. It flashes between the two screens.

Hi Williamb,

I'm sorry you've been experiencing this. This behavior is not normal for the game, but we've found some issues that do cause this on some hardware configurations and are working on a solution. In the meantime, we have known work-around that will solve this on most systems.

If you follow the steps in the Pinned FAQ threads in this forum, especially the one about Integrated and Dedicated GPUs, you will likely be able to resolve this.

If those steps don't work, we'll also have a beta update out later today which may fix this for you.

If all that fails, please post a DxDiag file for us per the pinned instructions in this forum.

Regards,

- Erik

I downloaded the latest patch from steam. I am happy to say this fixed my issues. The graphic errors I had are gone and I have not had any CTDs while playing. The patch seems to have fixed my issues.
