Buils schedule changes

Post by scout1 »

Can the build schedule be modified to either
- eliminate a previous build request to open up resources, say ship yards .....
- are build costs taken upfront for distributed as you go during the sequence ?

Would be nice to kill a project that no longer makes sense ,,,,

For me...

Ship wise you should be able to "pause" building ship A and switch to ship B...and ship A's arrival date increases by 16 days each day is "sits". 2 extra days for upkeep.

Land and Air are tougher...you are in the middle of training personal, building artillery and tanks...I supposed they could be converted to replacements for what you were building.

Doubt that can be done in the current game...cancel probably but you should get receive a full refund.
Say 25% for naval
50% for air
75% for land
As an example.

Meant to say NOT get a full refund.

Mechanism

Buttons in the build queue would be one way.

Button 1, examine. You can see what you built. Telling me a built an infantry is great but what year and assault or antitank? Could just happen if you click on the unit, no button required.
Button 2, Cancel. This would cancel the build and return X PP. Can not be done on "forming" units. Could be allowed on shattered but cost return would be based upon current strength.
Button 3, Pause. Only available on ships. If ship paused when turn starts add 16 days to build cycle.

Just thoughts.

I know LOTS of countries paused building ships due to cost during the war.

Other ways are much more micro managing...
Something like you pay a cost each turn something is being built...so when you build an infantry, I believe it takes approximately 4 turns...so cost would be 180 / 4 paid each turn. This is more micro managing but more interesting as you could pause anything you were building if you wanted. But you would need some sort of a limits on build because starting say 8 armor in one turn could not be allowed.

Not sure this is realistic to cancel a project. Looks at all the CV built by USA or UK during WW2. CV were achieved if already started. Only the "planned" CV were cancelled.
Chancellor Gorkon to Captain James T. Kirk:
You don't trust me, do you? I don't blame you. If there is to be a brave new world, our generation is going to have the hardest time living in it.

All the Axis nations cancelled their CVs that were in production.

The French started one in 1938 and stopped it in 1940 when attacked

The Allies seemingly built all the ones they planned.

Actually, the US did cancel 3, and same number for the UK that were already started. But it was more or less when the war ended, so maybe out of the scope of the game in terms of mechanics for that particular case.

So getting back to the game as coded .... There is NO WAY to cancel an existing build to restart as something else ?

You would then see the UK canceling all their ships.
Germany would cancel all their ships for subs.
The USA would cancel ships.

It creates a very unpredictable imbalance in the game.

I don't think they should be able to "cancel"

For example...the Bismarck is nearly complete. The Germans could put it on hold...to free up shipyards. It would free them up for subs you are correct.

Don't have to allow "cancel" per say.

actually I'm referring to naval builds I initiated and filled the pipeline only to discover I can't transport any of the US troops to europe ..... would like to correct my poor choice and not merely sit by while the us shipyards clear past silly choices
