Price for an upgrade

Post by ncc1701e »

Sorry if this has been answered before but, selecting upgrade only, which PP amount is needed to upgrade just a tech level?

10% of the 1939 tech level price of the unit.

In light of this it may be more worth more to keep some things on 1939, such as tac bombers which already have such a high value with low marginal gain (and increased replacement cost)

My guess is that the first two improvements are probably worth it for the tactical bombers. For a 10% price increase, the 1940 tech gives an extra 20% tactical power (can only guess it does then 20% more damage; everything else been equal). Now, if the first increase is worth it, then for the second increase (1941), for about a 9% increase in price (and repairs) from 1940, the defense increases by almost 17%, meaning (I can only guess), on average, and everything else been equal, 17% less damage on the said aircraft.

After that not sure. And of course, my argument should be taken with a healthy grain of salt as there is so much under the hood we do not see...

Sorry, I was in pacific mode. Numbers are probably different here. AFAIK, each offensive point has a chance to do damage (manual explicitly lays out the 25/50% modifiers for/from subs, for example). There are various modifiers, but I am not sure if they decrease the number of factors used or a multiplifer on each factor. Each change to do damage is negated somehow by defensive factors and by experience. Here, then, I would probably keep things at 1940, assuming oil is no issue, of course. Spearhead units should of course be as much upgraded as possible due to limited number of ground units in a space.

Can't wait to try Pacific WarPlan as well! Sadly so little time, so many WarPlan games... (well.. two...). 8-)

Question about the oil you mentioned : can some tech advancements increase oil consumptions in WarPlan Pacific if I understood correctly?

Not that I'm aware of. What I meant to convey is that when making the choice between, say, 2 x 1945 units or 3 x 1939-1940 units to buy, oil (for air) and spacing (for ground units, paratroops) is a secondary factor to consider.
