I have been trying to keep that save going. I will try a new game and see if it happens and if the event viewer error is the same.

Edit.
I started a new game and didn't crash, the game froze for about 20 seconds when i zoomed into an enemy empire capital but i left it untouched while not responding and it finally loaded all the ships and unfroze.

I'm sorry about the crash.

Did the 1.0.1.8 update help you at all?

Were there any crash logs in your /data/logs sub-folder that you could share?

From your DxDiag - What are these and are there newer drivers for them?

Description: CABLE-A Input (VB-Audio Cable A)
Driver Name: vbaudio_cablea64_win7.sys
Driver Version: 1.0.3.5 (English)
Driver Attributes: Final Retail
WHQL Logo'd: n/a
Date and Size: 10/18/2015 8:00:00 PM, 41144 bytes

Description: CABLE-B Input (VB-Audio Cable B)
Driver Name: vbaudio_cableb64_win7.sys
Driver Version: 1.0.3.5 (English)
Driver Attributes: Final Retail
WHQL Logo'd: n/a
Date and Size: 10/18/2015 8:00:00 PM, 41144 bytes

Do you have any third party codecs or fddshow installed that you could try uninstalling to see if that helps?
