Custom OST Mod

Greetings!

Sadly the score of the game isn't at par with the gameplay, so I had to customize the music folder by adding music of the following games/series (The default OST has been mostly removed, only the main menu and a few tracks are left)

• Endless Legend

• Endless Space 2

• Space Orion 2

• Heroic Age

• Zipang

• Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion

• Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

• Everspace

• Stellaris

And a couple of other songs from other games.

The music folder its 1.1~gb. Download link available at mediafire.

Instructions:

1.- Go to your Distant Worlds 2 data folder (In steam its located at Steam\steamapps\common\Distant Worlds 2\data).
2.- Delete the "music" folder
3.- Unzip the file than you've downloaded
4.- Play the game and add or remove more songs as desired (simply drop them in the corresponding folder in .mp3 format).

Very nice compilation. Are you planning to expand it? I'm thinking of film and series music from Star Trek or Star Wars. Or maybe a bit of synthwave.

Thanks for using it! I might expand it later once I have more time to play the game (damm work & college), but in the mean time you can add more songs as you want, simply search the song on youtube, use one of the google "youtube to mp3" converters, drop the file in the corresponding folder and voala!

Feedback to developers - i dislike the vanilla DW2 sound design. It very quickly becomes annoying and repetitive.

Nice thanks. I felt the same and added all of my old custom music from DW1 and it works great. These will add to my collection nicely!

That's right. I really hope that either the developers will touch this again or someone from the modding community will take care of it.

Just as a heads up, this method of conversion usually results in really poor quality. YouTube converts it to super compressed aac/opus on thier end, and then the online rippers export low bitrate mp3.

I can post some better ffmpeg (and youtube-dl) scripts, if you wish.

Also... why is vanilla DW2 using mp3 in 2022???? Its like exporting cutscenes to mpeg2, it makes no sense. Does the game support any other codec?

Thank you for this compilation.
I found this on accident, while looking in the www for the star wars music mod. Yesterday i found it, today i did not.
BUT:
If it happens to you, that the normal music still is playing sometimes or one track is playing an dthe rest not, or if you want to add some tracks by just drag and drop wihout renaming, try to extract this upload below, drag the music form the download in it.
all will play.

p.s.: all music has to have the same sample rate otherwise the music gets distorted

p.p.s.: you can use mor than one music mod.

You music is great, but I packed and reduced and threw double music out and took it out of high, med low folders.

Ok, for this/those TLDR:
The 7zip here is an empty mod folder where you can drag the whole music from the OP link in it.

The upload at file.io is from me with the same music from the OP but extreme crunshed down in size.
