[1.0.1.9] New patch do not respect refresh rate

Post by EagleMountainDK »

Hi

It seems that the latest version do not respect the selected refresh rate set in the Settings. I have selected 60hz even though my screen takes up to 144hz (Gsync):

My GPU fan started screaming and I saw this in the new reporting tool on the map view:

This was not an issue in the versions before 1.0.1.9.

Thanks for the report - what were you seeing in gamesettings before 1.0.1.9?

The refresh rate is not really normally important unless the game is running in the exclusive fullscreen mode, which requires Alt+Enter or the gamesettingsoverride

We fixed some issues that could limit performance on certain systems. When you say your GPU fan started screaming - what does windows task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) show as your GPU utilization? How is your GPU holding up temperature-wise? Are you seeing an increase in game performance?

Hi Erik

I had it set to 60Hz and it seemed that it respected it since my card was "silent". I normally check my fps using Geforce Experience but its seems that DW2 doesn't report correctly to it, so I'm unsure what fps really was.

After I reported this, I have added DW2 to the Nivida Control Panel and forcing the game to run at 60 fps again. So I will need to take it of and get back to you.

I removed the Control Panel entry and is back to the above settings playing the game.

Zooming in gives my a FPS at 282,93, 95% GPU usage and temp risen from around 50 degrees C to around 80 degrees C. My cpu fans start spinning and a high pitched sound is heard from my pc. I'm not really sure if its the two fans or the card that starts the high pitched sound. Moving the map around goes ok, with a little stutter and the FPS going all over the place, from 30-290. Stopping the game and going back to Windows sets the GPU temp to 46 degrees C.

So I really liked the control of my vsync better when the game respected my setting in the in game settings ;)

I'm back to control it with Nvidia Contol panel so I can play with out overheating my GPU.

Please let me know if I can be of any assistance!

And continuing my game with the FPS locked to 60 gives me smooth scrolling of the map and GPU usage around 45% and a temperatur around 53 degrees C.

I rolled my version back to 1.0.1.6 through Steam, deleted the two config files and made sure my Nividia profile was removed. It seems that it runs at around the 60 fps since the temperature and load is low. Changing the hz to @144 did nothing, but its hard to test w/o some kind of fps counter :)

So I will run the newest version and limit my fps to make sure I don't fry my GPU (When I rolled back to 1.0.1.9 and deleted the two setting files the FPS was 260 in the main menu and GPU Utilisation 88%....)
