Automatic design upgrade please

Post by lGSMl »

I desperately miss an option to let AI upgrade designs automatically without changing them, like it is in Stellaris.

Right now we can either let AI design whole ship, or design it manually and every time new tier component is available - we have to go and press "upgrade", usually without even touching anything - just "upgrade" -> "save".

Can we please automate that? I want my ships and stations to have specific components like ion protection, so I have to design them manually. But I do not want to click "upgrade" -> "save" through every design every time I unlock new tech because of that.

tl;dr:
1. Must-have - please either add "Auto upgrade" option to designer.
2. Nice QoL - allow to specify non-changeable components for auto-designer - so e.g. I can force all my military ships to have fast warp drive and ion armor, but I do not care for armaments.

Auto-upgrade doesn't necessarily make sense, because upgraded tech can have a different size, so just upgrading all components could result in a design that can't be saved.

ahh i had that issue... a design switching out small fighter hangars with medium ones and causeing it to go over size...
or replaceing enhanced armor with ion armor when i dont what it to do that.

even when i set in the design screen auto design to manual and hit upgrade it does these swaps... where i just want to design my own upgraded design... else i always have to copy as new and then manually obsolete the old design to prevent the game to just upgrade stuff on its own.

Make sure also to turn off automatic ship and base designs, because they'll create parallel designs when modules upgrade. I discovered this the hard way.

then, I think, it should be aligned per component type - so new tier tech stays same size. I understand from RP perspective it may be beneficial for newer railgun to take less space, and newer missile to take more, but from gameplay pov changing size of same component type from 10 to 12 brings almost nothing beside adding tetris frustration minigame (I don't believe they actually balanced all possible combinations of all loadouts to the point where few units of size matters).
