Freighters

Post by Ingor »

Anyone is feeling like their freighters are just running around doing not much ?

I just started a new game, some of mine are moving Caslon at 600 capacity when they could haul 2400 cargo. On top of that the basic automation giving every little mining station a Caslon requirement is really really bad I feel.

I'm new to the game so maybe that's supposed to be like that, to account for private people not having enough money to haul a full cargo from a mining station, maybe ? I'm a bit lost.

It feels like its not very different from DWU, the whole private logistic still looks like its a fairly basic implementation. In which freighters carry tiny amounts of rescources across the galaxy to meet demand or atleast i havent spotted a freighter running a full load.

Yes I saw this behavior also.

I built like 400 freighters and they are never 100%.

I had bigger freighters and AI didn't build it lol

Seem weird...

The way freighters seem to work (which was the same way they worked in DWU) is that they take resources from point A to point X. There's no stopping to drop off something extra at points B, C, D, E, etc along the way to X.

As a result, freighters will only pick up the amount of resources that was requested by a station, and the station requests resources based on how much it uses them over time. This is good, because otherwise you'd get stations overflowing with resources that never seem to do anything with them, and stations starving for resources.

I'd like to see freighters loading up with goods and delivering them along a route, but that might end up complicating the simulation so much, that it'll be just an endless source of bugs.

Yeah, that would need the implementation of the Travelling Salesman Problem which is really not trivial in scope.

A better solution in my oppinion would be trade-lanes between space ports, freighters only fly between the nearest space ports and ressource orders are exchanged between space ports.

Maybe Erik answers the question how the private economy works in this thread
