Stupid freighters not utilizing cargo space properly causing performance issues

Post by Ractaros96 »

I know we're not supposed to control private sector, but those freighters are behaving irrationally. There is not even any point to having freighter with only 1 x 800 units cargo hold, because often they are flying with like 50 units of some resource let alone bigger freighters.

Either change AI to utilize more cargo space, for ex. if mining facility has enough storage to get freighter full cargo's worth of resources then let them pick it up when it's full, not earlier. That or just add setting in automation policy that you can change minimal amount of resources that can be picked up from mining stations or planets (maybe different values for different classes of freighters)

Wasting fuel on FTL travel and utilizing only 1/16 of your cargo space should be illegal! (And computing power of our computers!)

Freighters by design are not couriers and should not fly with one 20 kg package over 10 LY to deliver it as fast as possible. Their point is to haul as large amounts of resources as possible over largest distances as possible and delivery time is totally beside the point. Think of them as large container ships in real life that take 2+ weeks to deliver large amount of goods instead 2 days with a courier.

Right now, I have over 100+ small freighters, only 13 mining stations and like 15 colonies. In an earlier game I had nearly 1000+ freighters, over 100 mining stations (I just clicked yes every time there was a suggestion to build it despite not having a shortage of resource) and 30 colonies and simulation slowed down significantly.

I feel that even with having only 1 or 2 miners for each fuel and construction resource and all luxury resources possible (they are always gobbled up by planets population like crazy) game will get to a standstill even if I try to colonize whole 500 stars galaxy. I have a decent CPU (i7-8700) and that should not happen.

If cargo management won't be resolved then I'll simply set stockpiles on planets all luxury resources to 0 to stop this madness. Sorry, but colonizing whole galaxy is more important than this. Income per colony may be lower from lack of those resources, but at this point the game may not leave me other choice.
