I have to agree. The inability to put several types of cruisers in a fleet template kind of goes against the good flexibility of the ship designer.
I'd like to be able to have a ship of the line, electronic attack and missile cruiser all in the same convenient fleet template.

Especially since research will give you specialized hulls of each ship role, like Fast Frigates vs Heavy Frigates vs Fleet Frigates.

Also Retrofit Fleet needs to be adjusted so ships upgrade to the next iteration of their own design instead of just the latest active design for their ship role.

Yep.

This was one of my 'demands' whilst beta testing. I believe it's on the rather large to-do list.

But the more people that talk about it here, the faster it moves up that list. :mrgreen:

It's a good idea, I support
If it were supplemented by a policy that would allow, among other things, the objectives of escorts, such as a heavy escort to protect bases/contruction/colony ship and a patrol ship for other civil ship like passanger/mining.

If stations were also possible, it would be good, for example, a remote fuel mining station converted from a mining station,

it’s annoying that I only have the option to use multiple ship types(same roles) completely manually, and they need to be updated one by one.(Automatic retrofit options make my patrol escort ship into heavy escort) The DWU was better in this area because I was able to mark the desired ships on the military panel and be able to choose what I wanted to retrofit them for.

Why the many models for same role if you can choose only one of them. If you have the opportunity, let's live with it.
I would love to be able to make better use of these opportunities.

I agree 110%! In my current game I'm 10+ years away from Destroyers. I have 2 Frigate designs, a missile ship and an assault ship. I was using Escorts to assault, but since my neighbors are already up to Destroyers, that's no long a viable option.

Currently I use the Assault Frigate in the fleet template, then add in the Missile Frigates after it's built. It's a pain.

Strongly agree. I think the right solution is that retrofits should follow based on Design Name, rather than broad hull type. E.G. instead of all escort types retrofitting to the latest design using any escort hull, a design name "Zoomer v1" would only retrofit to the highest available "Zoomer vX".

There would need to be some convention established on version numbers (or, just most recently saved with that name), but I think that would solve my frustrations here.

Also agree. Without this I will not bother having more than one frigate design, etc, because the enjoyment of designing is outweighed by the micro to maintain fleets

This really hinders ship and fleet management. Basically, if I ever want to use a ship in a specialized role (disabler, missile boat, etc.) I can't use the auto update or refit system. This should be very high on the list to update.
