one more question - what to do with random crashes?
like game on pause, i'm alt-tabbed doing my stuff like reading telegram and then suddenly distantworlds2.exe stopped working.
any workaround?

At least one racial start got a repairable spaceport.
Pick the "Repair" option in the event and it should instantly repair to full.

If you somehow closed the menu, you should be able to find this in the message log or recall it by selecting a ship and ordering to Investigate the wreck again.

There is no "defend" order, so I am not sure what you mean. There is a "guard" order, but that's for specific assets, like stations. Selecting a "defense" type of fleet might not achieve what you want. To make sure your fleet defends your system:
- Assign a right-click "Patrol" command for that system;
- Make sure you have the adequate fleet settings: "aggressive" behaviour and "same system" range of attack.
If after doing this your ships still don't intercept enemies inside the system, post a bug report.
Another question: Can you change a fleet back to automated, after it's been set to manual by the game? Every time I do something with a fleet, it's basically gonna be a manual fleet for ever. I have no idea how, or if it can be put back into automated mode. Thanks

Click on the Automation button and select the right Fleet Automation type.
Same as everythign else that you would set on automatic.

It made me crazy… all research components belong to a category which is not indicated anywhere in game.

There is a table in the manual, take a look in page 62 and 63. You'll see that the "High Tech" category is for these components:

Research
Command Center
Commerce Center
Medical Bay
Recreation Center

I am having an issue with my latest run.

For about 3-4 game years now I have been running with a cashflow indicator of +50k or more. I cannot seem to get any cash though. I seldom have much money and when I get any, it drops instantly down. The most I have accrued in years is about 30k.

I thought it must be the AI spending cash on facilities and ship upgrades etc..

So I turned off it's ability to make troops. I made all retrofits for state ships and bases set to manual. It has not made any facilities... Where is all this money going? I have tried to limit all the state spending I know of, what am I missing?

The other possibility could be trade. But I do not know how to tell them to stop spending money on that if that is what is happening.

I am trying to build facilities on my planets but cannot save enough to do so....

EDIT: Been following the expenses closely, I am purchasing about 20K through trade, but I spent 120k on ships and bases construction, when I have built nothing and have all upgrades set to manual. Thoughts? How can I stop it from spending on buildings that I know nothing about? All building suggestions for last year pop-ups have been denied.

Funding Levels (Shift+F2).
Excess goes into Colonygrowth and Research first and foremost.
Only if they can not use any, does it end up on your bank.

The primary inrcreaser for your stored money amount is bonus income.

Understood, however the +70k cash flow is not going to R&D.

I did just notice that it cued up a Cloning facility at my main planet when that is not suppose to be possible according to the settings, but where my cash is mostly going is new Ships and Bases. Even though it has not been ordered to spend on these tasks and all base requests have been denied.

It has been building stuff when it is not suppose to be. But I have no idea how to find out WHAT it is actually building except for the clone facility, which I noticed because I cycled through my colonies and saw it. But they are separate lines on the expenses page...

Funding issue Update:

Ok 40k in state ship and base spending...

No new Mining bases.
No new Resort Bases.
No new construction ships.
No increase in Military Strength (indicating military ships)
No new exploration ships.
No troops are at least SUPPOSE to be able to be built... Nothing looks cued up.

What am I missing?

EDIT:

The number of resort bases is fluctuating between 7 and 13. Even while paused. I built about 7 so those are probably the good ones, but the Resort bases page (no new ones page) is flashing different bases constantly. I am going to try and see if I can figure out which bases are real and which are ghosts. It might have something to do with this...

If you are on steam, please make sure you verfified the integritiy of the gamefiles.
Files tend to break in DW2. A lot.

it says discovered abandoned spaceport. investigate?
then it tells you can repair it with construction ship
advisor suggests to send one ship to repair.
after a while it repaired to 100% and once again you have option to leave it alone or investigate
after investigaing its yours and start being stocked by freighters
but cannot get membar or steel to actually produce ships

Click on the Automation button and select the right Fleet Automation type.
Same as everythign else that you would set on automatic.
Thanks, Those fleets are great. Once I got teched up a little they were stomping the pirates. When pirates showed up they were on it, I didn't have to micro manage them. I am wondering if I should pick a fight with the two I am paying off. I have read that they can end up joining you. Not sure if that is worth it.

Wow, I am going to that now. Things sometimes get a little weird, now that I am in a game that I want to continue (a few false starts), this is a good idea.

Not sure I understand your question. But if you're asking how come you're getting some resources without having built a mining station, that is most likely from mining ships from the private sector.

As for your space port not working, what do you mean exactly by "if doesn't work"? What makes you say that it doesn't work? Maybe it would help also if you could post a saved game.

ofc it works. all repaired and green. but in resource shortages there is saying "mined here" on steel and membar. and zeros on quantity... noone transferring steel there, coz game thinks its unnecessary.

i think its because usually you have spaceport on colony. and colony does the mining for spaceport.

in case of abandoned one - there is no colony obviously, and spaceport doesnt have mining equipment.

Did anyone actually give a closer look when fighting the 75k strength single carrier from the hive? The damage they dish seems to be way beyond the charts, the one I fought had 6 titan blasters that each one had a 4 shot salvo with 0,25 delay every 5 seconds at 70 damage each, so even before damage falloff and chance to miss it should be 1680 damage every 5 seconds, instead EACH shot was giving 520-540 damage, so 530(each shot)x4(salvo)x6(number of titan blasters) = 12.720 damage every 5 seconds, my destroyer would be destroyed in the middle of the salvo, in practice I would lose a ship every 5 seconds, it took 4 fleets with 10 ships 50k strength each ship plus 3 fleets with 4 ships 20k strength each to take it down and lost like 70% of the fleet doing so.


Edit: Also I had 20-30+ bombers firing with 2 epsilon torpedoes each (11 damage) that were dealing 0 damage to the disabled hive carrier at zero shield, armor and 60% hull, the hull only went down after my carrier started shooting it's missiles.

Edit 2: Just fought a 50k single carrier from the hive, had the same loadout of the 75k one and behaved fine, I was able take it out with 3 carriers and a destroyer that were left over from the previous engagement.

At least for Caslon, Pirate Spaceports also act as (and lock out) mining stations.

However, as the Spaceports do not have mining gear that might be a special override for Pirate Spaceports and Caslon. As I can confirm it in my games (never looked before), I reported it as a bug.

OK. I think I figured it out from your save. You have a mining station on Ylex 4. And around the station, there's at least one asteroid that have steel and webnar. So that would explain the "Mined Here" (mining station on asteroids have a range; asteroids in that range are mined by the station).

As for the 0 resources for steel and webnar, when I opened your saved, paused, there were already some in the space port. Not much, but not 0. Most likely, it's that you have to allow some time for the private sector freighters to cary some from the mining station to the space port.
