Battle Grp oil use

Trying to calculate my oil upkeep, I don't understand the game rule. Looks like a Battle Grp is sometimes consuming 1 oil and sometimes consuming 2 oil on Japanese side.

But buying a new Battle Grp, the consumption will be always at 2 oil use. Same for the US side.

However, on the US side, all the Battle Grp are at 1 oil use not 2. Bug or intended??? If so, why?

Same for the two Battle Grp of the Royal Navy. 1 oil use instead of 2 when buying.

BB groups that have "warship" tech use 1 less oil.

All WW1 BBs have "warship" tech.

All modern BBs for the era have "heavy warship" tech.

OK but when this bonus is applied for "Warship" tech? I am asking because buying new BB with "Warship" tech indicates an oil consumption of 2.

So, new BB "Warship" will consume 2 oil or 1 oil? I am confused.

Good catch. This may be a coding thing.

When building a battle group the cost is the same for Large Warships or Warships. As Al mentioned, the intent of having BBs with "Warships" is to reflect the older tech. If you are building a new BB then you want the new tech "Large Warship" choice. It would be easer to see if this was the only option available - Large using 2 OP. Just like with cruisers which only have one option - Warships with 1 oil point use. However it may not be possible to remove the obsolete option without affecting the "at start" setup.

Oh I see what you mean. New BB group can only be built with a Large Warships option.
If it does not break the existing initial setup, why not.

Is it a rule set in stone? I am asking because I am seeing few exceptions in UK and Japanese BB units.

The USA BB units are just fine.

Except one thing the Massachusetts BB div is arriving November 7, 1944 in the Pacific for the game whereas it was transferred and was operating near Noumea already in March 4, 1943 protecting South Pacific convoy lanes.

All right, based on this, here is some WW1 BB/BC to change for UK in the Deployment queue:

Queen Elizabeth BB Sqd must be changed from Large Warships 1942 to Warships 1942
Valiant BB Sqd must be changed from Large Warships 1942 to Warships 1942
Renown BC Sqd must be changed from Large Warships 1942 to Warships 1942

I am checking Japan BB now.

Nagato BB Sqd must be changed from Large Warships 1942 to Warships 1942 (hex: 70, 76)
Mutsu BB Sqd must be changed from Large Warships 1942 to Warships 1942 (hex: 80, 78)
