[1.0.2.1]"Latest per Category" is faulty to the point of being usless or actively hindering

Post by zgrssd »

With "latest by Category", nothing realy works. It needs categories that are better then "Slot Type".

Example Hangars:
- small Fighterbay will Upgrade to Medium and Medium to Large, the second you unlock them. Meaning that every upgrade tends to make the design invalid by doubling the size of the intalled hangar
- Once I unlock the Large one, "Latest by category" will not show any hangars on any ship not able to to fit a large Hangar - because now there is only the Large one for it

Examples Weapons:
- Railgun M v3 upgrades to Hail Cannon, massively changing the performance
- Buckler Repeating Blaster will Upgrade to Higher Tier Interceptor Missiles, doubling the size
- Lower tier interceptor missiles will upgrade to higher Tier Buckler, resulting in PD that no longer fire as far or in every direction
- Missiles will swap for Torpedoes or Large Missiles, again causing havoc with both sizes, PD saturation and Bonus effects

Simply Put, "Category" can not be based on Slots. It must be meaningfully differntiate between:
- all weapons with different bonus types. If I install something with Shield Skipping, it can not be replaced by something with Armor skipping
- different sizes - Small, Medium and Large weapons are not interchangeable
- PD is not interchangeable across types*
- Even within one nominal size category, significant difference in Size - like Lance and Hunter Missiles (57/88 Size) or the Heavy and Forge Rail Cannon (40/70) - should not be interchangeable.

*I could maybe see a case for Blaster and Beam PD being interchangeable - the size and performance is similar and they do end up to converge into the Guardian Defense Grid. But Missile PD, Ion PD, Shield PD and Blaster/Beam PD are not interchangeable.

I agree.
This is come from Distant world 1 ... where it works the same. It was stupid because for example when you found that you forgot to research some hyperdrive type, then you will research now it in few days, no problem. But for Ship design screen that component become latest and it will only one visible in Ship design screen. No matter that you already have hyperdrive with +2 tiers, 2x faster and much more effective.

In DW 1 that old tech was also used in automated designs ...... I did not checked it in DW2 - I hope that at least this bug was fixed.
But the truth is that it will be the latest technology..... just it will not be the best (most advanced) one.

This seems fixed.

I just got the Heavy Railgun while also having the Humans Hail Cannons.
It is still hail cannons in the list.

Looks nice! I know that Erik and others works as much as possible to fix it.

But I with that instead of release they should do open beta, so all those problems with AMD GPU will happen for beta players not for regular customers. Too late now.

They had a Beta. 3 Months. Might have been 6 months.

Whatever the AMD issue is, it is either a new addition or something that nobody in the Beta suffered or reported.

Oh ok. That can happens. Some minor change or fix on last time before final build will broke the game in serious way.

Thanks for info.

I mean, you only have to check the patch notes to see that there have been multiple hardware problems, sure, but also multiple gameplay tweaks and changes that have been made which apparently weren't caught by the "Beta".

Every game goes through a Beta process, the difference if whether it's your usual squad of Beta testers going through the motions or a much wider group with different experience levels and hardware configurations that actually blow out the cobwebs.

I suspect they didn't want to use, eg Steam Early access, because it would take away from day one availability on Matrix's own site. That decision has been detrimental to the game's launch. ("All reviews" on Steam are "positive", but if you select by "English" reviews only the reviews are "mixed". If I click through to reviews it's mostly red thumbs down. Not a good look.)
