Question about ship versus fleet retrofits

Post by 100thMonkey »

I don’t want to have to manage all the not-in-fleet ships retrofits manually. But I DO want to manage and have control on when (and to what design) the ships in fleets are retrofited.

So, is it possible in DW2 to have the individual not-in-fleet ships on automatic retrofit, but not those in fleets? If so: how?

Yep, can be done. In the automation settings, there are separate settings for automatically retrofitting both manually controlled and automated fleets. By default, automated fleets automatically retrofit while manually controlled fleets don't.

Another way you can control this is by using the fleet templates. In the template you can select which specific design each role should use. If you select a specific design, fleets will not retrofit unless you update the template.

Quick question: How do you automate fleets? I can't find that anywhere, finally gave up looking, all my fleets are manual. It's getting to be to be much micromanaging. I want my fleets to retrofit, doing it manually is getting time consuming.

Click on the automation button. If the fleet is on manual, it'll be a yellow M. Click on it and it'll change into a blue A.

To automate all you fleets, go in your empire policies (shortcut "P"), in the "Fleets" section, and click on the 3 buttons in the green circle (see screenshot below).

After that, if you want to put a specific fleet on manual, you do that from the selection panel while the fleet is selected. Click on the "Fleet Role" button (second one starting from the bottom-right of the panel), and click on "Manual".

But be warned that the ships and fleets tactics affect your fleets behaviors, whether they are on auto or manual. And I'm still trying to figure out how these work exactly...

Thanks.
The all or nothing approach is tough. I like having a fleet to use as my personal fleet for important missions I want to do. Oh well, manual it is. It's gotten better by having the Fleet menu open most of the time. I can pick a fleet from the list and send it.

My settings are at Manual and my fleets automatically retrofit when they are without orders - as long as it is set to the latest design at each role inside the Fleet Template.

Are you saying you've observed that a manual fleet using a specific design (instead of "Latest Active Design for Role") never retrofited by itself? (I'm not saying that they do; I'm asking).
