xAP carrying resources?

Post by WEXF »

Image[/img]I am noticing that an xAP cannot load resources if it is in a Transport TF with only other xAP ships. However, if the xAP is in a Transport TF that contains xAK ships, it can load resources. Why? If you look at the manual it seems like xAP should not be able to handle resources. Thoughts?

Some of the ships have separate load capacity for troops & separate for cargo. The cargo hold can in a pinch carry resources. Check the individual ship, it would have a number for each category.

I am aware of that. The xAP in the screen shot has a cargo capacity of 750 and it looks like there are 750 resources on it.
If that ship was in a different Transport TF without the xAKLs would it still be able to load resources? I have seen TF where that was not possible? That is my question.
Look at this screen shot. Notice that the TF cannot load resources. It can load other things but not resources.

I've seen the same thing. It's also true for AGs. No resources if in isolation, but if coupled with AK types then they can load resources. If I were to guess, it's a coding issue that was set in place long ago and has never been changed. But I really have never read an explanation for it.

Thanks for the comment. I was wondering what was happening?
Is it also possible to get an xAK or xAP to load oil by putting it in a Transport TF with a TK? I know the xAK/xAP can load fuel, but I don't think they are supposed to be able to load oil.

An AK, if it has liquid space (you will see that on the ship's info screen) will load fuel into that space if supplies are selected and oil if resources are selected (presupposing the site you're located at HAS these items). Besides fuel for the ship itself, I don't know of an AP (x or otherwise) that has liquid loading capacity, but I could be wrong here. So all an AP will load is fuel for itself.

really minor issue, as xAPs are a lot more valuable than xAKs and using them to carry resource is a not a good idea

that goes for both Allies and Japan

Well I can think of one reason, if you are traveling back to the home islands to pick up troops, why not carry resources/oil back with you if you get the chance. I certainly do that rather than run back empty! But other than that, I agree, not a good use of a AP type hull.

The question was asked to better understand the workings of the game.
There is no question about the value of the xAP as a troop carrier being superior to its use as a cargo ship.

It's a small quirk in the game. APs should not be able to carry resource even with cargo space, suppy/fuel yes, bit not resources. Put solely APs in a TF and try. However if you also put a cargo ship in with them you can if the APs have cargo space.

I suspect there's the same quirk with liquid storage as with resources but never tried it seen it etc. I generally so oil no, fuel yes but in drums and stored as cargo unless there' liquid storage space.
