Cannot colonize planet that appears to be within colonization range

Post by EightBitZer0 »

So in my human playthrough, I found Sol and wanted to colonize Terra, but the game keeps telling me its outside of the colonization range even though I have a colony right next to it.

I first thought it was due to the gravitational nebula storm there, but I should have the techs to negate those is there any other reason why I wouldn't be able to colonize anything in sol?

I have the same problem. It appears to be exclusive to "Terra" as I was able to build mining stations in the planets nearby. My colony ship can fly right up to Terra but won't colonize it.

I have the same issue. Colonies all round Sol, and some at much farther ranges away from the next nearest colony.

Seems like a bug of some sort since I can fly in and out the system just fine with the tech I have.

As far as I can tell this is due to nebulae slowing down ships to 1/10, and gravitic slowing them down even more by 50%, so it ends up being 1/20, and this is apparently taken into account for the colonization range calculation. Maybe.

Did you guys try building a colony ship at the nearby colony? If not try it and see if you can manually colonize the planet....GP

I'm having the same problem with Terra. I think I manually sent a ship with humans but will try again.

The colonization range is set only at the beginning of a game, correct? That seems odd, seems like something the tech tree should affect. But I do understand why you wouldn't want the AI to sneak-colonize all over the place.

I even tried sending a colony ship there, it arrived just fine, but could not colonize. Every type of ship I have can go there, but no one can colonize. Do I need to research some new engines etc to go further. Don't quite understand, as the way it stacks up in my game, NOTHING is within colonizable range.

This is the reason
I have played 5 games now to the end and never managed to colonize Tera or any other planet in sol, even with 400mill colony range.
And no, no tech will make you do it.
