Not freighter backlog, just a huge freighter chill out zone.

Anyone had anything like this before? I've heard of big queues of freighters waiting to dock, nearly all of these guys are just hanging around with no mission. Seems very unlikely there is no demand for shipping, I've got free trade agreements with half the galaxy and have been expanding colonies heavily as well as building loads of ports and bases.

Edit: Seems to be more common than I thought, and just hadn't noticed till now. My capital:

Are they waiting to retrofit to a newer model?

Also, if the spaceport's docks are full they'll be waiting in orbit until their turn comes.

Early game as you are building up your private sector I noticed the AI will spam build a bunch of freighters then go back to its normal business. After sitting a while everything gets a mission so I guess its just the AI prebuilding up part of the private fleet to service the mines that will be built etc.

My guess is the private economy plain overbuilds.
The game for example tends to overbuild colony ships. Because between one ship leaving the yard and it actually going to colonize, there is no colonizer on the target planets. So clearly it needs more.

Another option might be range. As in: The freightes lack the range to do jobs.

A third option is damage gamesfiles. Please do a steam file verification.

Not exactly sure what it was, but could have been retrofitting/constructing related. Ran the game for a few months, and they had all pretty much left and gone off on missions again.

Thank goodness for that. Without it, I think my state economy would perish in early game.
Bridge is the best wargame going .. Where else can you find a tournament every weekend?
