[1.0.2.4] Potential issue with Space Construction Tech/Upgrading Space ports

To start off I was messing around trying to get into the ship and station design as this was something i liked to do in DWU

The Space Construction Tech advises you get access to a new version of the Small Spaceport.

I went in to manually update the first space port I built.

However it was still limited to the max size of 750 with no way, that I could see, to simply update the station to the larger size.

When I went to add new on the design window I was able to see another small space station there with all the correct stats.

Now I was initially thinking this tech should just be a straight upgrade to the Original Small Space port simply updating the original Stats but from this it looks like it is just adding a new template from which we have to start the design from scratch again.

If anyone else could advise if they have the same issue.

This works like the Variant Hulls for Ships.
As they could have different weapon slot layouts, you have to start from scratch.

Ahh got ya. minor inconvenience as i remember one play through where i didnt investigate it and kept dropping weapons to be able to add stuff.

The Spaceport is the one thing I realy prefer leaving on Manual, as I have to go through 3 Hulls per Size.

Once I get into the bigger ones, I reliably get 2 Construciton Yards. That is realy the most important part.

One other point I noticed when doing the redesign on the new SSP - If you start from scratch, it will not allow you to select a Research Lab as a component (when you click on it it greys out, and wont allow you to add). However, if you click the button to auto-design it for you, the auto-design will include one research lab (you can't add any) and you can change all the components around that. Not sure why, and I wish it would at least give an error message to say if there's a reason it can't be added.

Like you get a message if you try to add a third engine on an Escort, saying you can only have 2 engines (even though it has 3 bays), but at least then you know why you cant. With the research lab, it greys out but there's no message as to why.
Just when I get the hang of a game, I buy two more... :)

Only one general slot in the middle has the 60 Size to fit a Research Lab.

Every other General slot is 50 or less size.

It simplifies the Process to open a new design, hit auto-generate and then edit the new design

Thanks! I don't know why I never noticed that before!
It is hard to make out. I just got it by starting from scratch and selecting the Lab first. And then, still decent eyesight.
Would be easier if the slot was 120 or something, like the bigger weapon slots. Something large enough you can notice the difference.
