Tanker range?

Post by Barleyman »

So we've got fleet tankers, as expected. One thing I'm not sure about is whether the "range" i.e. Fuel Cell makes much difference? Does the tanker just run on the fuel cargo or it actually has to stop and "refuel" itself? Or even worse, it can't do that and gets stuck?

Tankers can refuel themself from storage. So 1 tanker with 1 Fuelcell is entirely enough. I might get them a 2nd Cell, if I got nothing else to install. If I would install a 3rd Fuelcell, I just add another Cargo Bay.

However, note that there aer least 7 issues with tankers resulting in the rarey - if ever - doing their job. Like them trying to refuell a fellow tanker with full cargo bays. That already self-refuelled.

So, does the range of the fuel tanker as shown in the design window indicate its maximum range as per carried fuel?
How can you gauge its effective range for the tanker in this case when it does its job refueling other assets in the fleet?

1. Both the indicated and displayed range is based on Fuel Cells only.
2. No way to figure out the real range I can think off.

Looks like having two tankers in a fleet is a recipe for a disaster as they will get stuck trying to fill each other up. :?

Its a known issue and Elliot is working on that.
I am not sure tankers work at all at the moment.

Well, they do refuel.
But is everything else that is broken, making them useless in practice:
