A Week in Binh Long Error

Post by Gustophus »

I have loved this scenario, though it somehow fails to give me VPs for having units in the right place and thus reduces victory points even though I have the units where they are supposed to be within the hex distance required. However, the main issue I am having is an error message. This has happened to me twice. This is of course frustrating because you build up all the time to get to a certain day only to have the game not really work after this error. For myself, the first time happened during day 2 and this last time happened on day 3. It really makes me not want to try again.

Also, for some reason, smoke rounds are not being fired though it says I have 110 of them.

Here is a pic of the error message:

What is going on and how do I resolve it?

Hmm. That's an odd error

Any chance you could load your save files and log files when that error happens?

Did you play it under the 1.10 UPDATE?

I have done some additional tweaks to the BINH LONG scenario with the 1.11 UPDATE, which I will be giving it a full playthrough in the AAR in the AAR menu.

Have you maybe updated to v1.11, and are attempting to resume this scenario saved in an earlier game version? For sure, v1.11 is not backward compatible with earlier save games.

In any case, please ZIP up and post here all save files and all .log files in your Logs folder.

I updated the game first before playing this scenario. A week in the Mekong gave me similar treatment when I used the prior version, so I tried Binh Long to see if it was corrected. I am attaching the saved files for A Week in Binh Long.

Looks like your save file became corrupted.

The way you can recover it, is by:

1. Delete your Binh Long.btl file
2. Rename your Binh Long OLDER.btl file to Binh Long.btl
3. Load that file.

You may have lost some of your moves from your previous file, but, that should allow you to recover it.

I appreciate the feedback. What causes this to happen so I can prevent that in the future?

That's tough to say, I'm not sure.

But, to help prevent it in the future.

After every couple/few turns, I'd recommend saving the file, then exiting out of the game and then relaunching it. Just to make sure there are no memory leaks or anything that may cause that issue.

In the meantime, we are reviewing the code, and the scripts, to ensure that corruption like this will never again happen in future.

But it was precisely for situations like this that, years ago, we implemented in the Campaign Series system the Backup Saves (current, OLDER, OLDEST) feature. Backups of some sort (in CS, handled automatically in game) are strongly recommended. It is always good to have a Plan B!

This should only be necessary for the truly humongous scenarios, like the "Week in..." monsters. For scenarios of more reasonable size, you should have no problem. <knock on wood>
