TOAW- version compatibility

Post by rocket7407 »

Why am I getting a "your version of toaw does not support this scenario"? I have the latest version and the scenario works perfectly in single player mode. But in pbem mode, when I save a turn to the server and attempt to reload it to continue, I get that message.

You'll get that message if the scenario was not originally made in TOAW IV and needs to be converted from an earlier version of TOAW. Open the scenario with the editor and then save it. See if that solves the problem.
What scenario is giving you the problem and where did you get it?

I'm playing Pacific at War 1941-1945. The game loads fine in single player mode, but I'm playing a pbem game that I just started- turn 1. I loaded the game to take a look, made a few moves, then saved it to the server to continue later. When I tried to load it from the server, that's when I got the "your version of toaw does not support this scenario". If my version of toaw doesn't support the scenario, then how was I able to load it in the first place?

The drill for saving a turn for continuing later is not that simple. I don't remember the procedure that works, but Larry is the one that figured it out. I just can't find the thread anymore. Maybe he'll chime in.

I'm familiar with the procedure. You choose "close" from the file pulldown menu (definitely not "save game"), then click "save and close". After a few moments, the game screen disappears and you're back at the opening menu. Your turn has been saved to the server at that point and you can continue later from the point where you saved it. I've used this procedure many times with other scenarios, but with the particular scenario I'm playing now, it produced that compatibility message, which I've never seen before.

One possibility is that the file is corrupted. Try downloading it again or replaying it and re-saving it.

My advice is to ditch that game and start another and use the old fashioned way to play PBEM ( emails back and forth ). I've had so many problems with the PBEM++ system that I avoid it altogether.

I'm having problems with scenarios suddenly not opening, and receiving the "cannot open this version...." message. I've tried all of the suggestions in this thread, but to no avail.

I don't want to start over because I've put time and effort into it.

Also, I had to re-install TOAW IV, and I can only get v 4.0.0.11 to work. When I tried to re-install 4.1.0.21, a dll file comes up missing, and I have to uninstall and start all over again...still with the same results. When I go from 4.0.0.11 to 4.1.0.40, the scenario won't open....all I get is a spinning wheel, and nothing comes up.

Frustrating isn't the word here.
