How to order fleets to escort particular civilians?

Post by Grotius »

Is there a way to manually order a fleet (or, for that matter, an individual military ship) to escort a particular civilian from and to a particular place? E.g., to escort a colony ship, or to escort a construction ship headed into pirate-infested territory?

I know I can give ships 'auto-escort' automation. And I see I can give individual ships 'close escort' tactics. But I can't seem to manually order ships or fleets to follow around a civilian ship. I do see occasionally that my escorts and frigates occasionally do escort civilian ships, but I'm not sure how to order a military ship to do so for a specific mission.

Any advice? Apologies if I missed it somewhere in the manual. Thanks.

Select military ship (or fleet, I guess) then hold right click on the civilian ship. Escort will be an option. I just tried manually ordering a frigate to escort a transport ship so I know THAT works. Should work with Construction or Colony ships (which I wouldn't describe as civilian).

Same method you use to set a home base for a fleet. Hold right click. Doesn't work half the time but their intentions are good.

I’ve been using hold-right-click more often, but I hadn’t thought to try it here. Thanks for the tip! I’ll give it a whirl.

I just tried, and it doesn't work when a fleet is selected. If I remember correctly, it wasn't possible in DW:U, and I'm pretty sure it isn't possible in DW2 either. I'd like that to be added to the game though; can certainly see situations where that would be useful...
