StB Summer '43 Jubjub (s) vs Des (a) - streaming on twitch

Post by jubjub »

I decided that the all text format wasn't doing it for me, so I decided to stream my gameplay instead. Come join me for my second stream as I play my favorite scenario - Stalingrad to Berlin.

This is also partially in response to the 'axis is op on defense' thread, so I can show how to (imo) properly manage the Red Army in real time.

Working my way through the first stream and it's a little hard to hear you talk over the game music (might just be me though)

Thanks for the feedback, this should be fixed in future streams (starting today). I've made a few other changes to the stream as well, including upping the display scaling, so everything should be bigger and easier to see on the screen.

I caught one of your streams and enjoyed it. You really seem to know the game and you do a great job going into the game's mechanics and I especially appreciated the detail you went into with the air game.

I am curious though: you seem to group fighter models into air armies. Why is that (if this is true)?

I explained a lot about that today. I haven't figured out how to edit / cut videos, but if you skip ahead to the 34 minute mark, I go through some of managing the VVS.

Basically, I put a fighter air corps (IAK) and a il-2 air corps (SAK) into each air army. I only put planes in each IAK that roughly match their ideal altitudes. So ideally I group all La-5F's together, Yak models together etc. This way you can control the altitude at which each group flies at. You can also interchange these air corps into different air armies within a turn if needed.

The main reason I do this is for organization, since there's enough clicking around with the air war already, and it's basically impossible to manage it without some sort of structure. It allows me to move, rest/un-rest, and do what I need to do the fighter/tactical regiments much more efficiently.

I probably go into too much detail managing my pilots, you can alternatively just right click on your air armies and click 'send depleted groups to reserve' when they are getting low. Then you can bring them back when they are high xp and nearer to full strength. The reason why I'm spending so much time on it is because all of my air regiments were diluted when they expanded from 20->34 planes per regiment.

I greatly improved the stream quality. I'm going to try to up the settings even more next time - until my computer starts smoking lol.

Thanks JubJub -- I have to say I find your stream to be the best, no-frills presentation on how to play the game well.

Thank you! Added some sound filters, and am going to see if I can stream in 1440p. Thanks for putting up with some teething issues.

For those who aren't watching, here's a status update on my '43 summer offensive in the StB campaign.

Started the campaign by almost getting the entire Southwestern front encircled around Kursk, but then executed my plan for the initial campaign and encircled 23 infantry divisions and around 5 mechanized divisions around Orel. Unfortunately, my opponent was able to free most of these divisions, although I was able to liquidate 7 infantry divisions. However, he's drained strength from the rest of the Eastern front to perform this counterattack, and has now fallen back to shorten his defensive and supply lines.

Situation as of turn 32 (July 24, 1943):
