One-turn Conquest of Poland

Post by lucr41 »

Hi All,

I am new to this fantastic game and have searched the forum for the issue I have encountered, but could not find a related topic. If I am repeating a previously-posted topic, my apologies.

Here is the issue:

I was playing the 1939 official campaign as the Axis side, with the Allies controlled by the AI (the latest patch is installed). Germany conquers Poland in 2 turns and between these 2 turns, the USSR invades Eastern Poland which triggers a drop in USSR's mobilization from 25% to 20%. The Western Allies are offended by this collusion.

While browsing this forum, I found that some gamers are taking out Poland in one turn. The thought had not crossed my mind, although some would say that's a short trip. :) Knowing it was now possible, I tried my hand at a one-turn conquest and was able to pull it off.

Now, here's the rub: a one-turn conquest appears to eliminate Poland before the USSR has a chance to invade the Eastern part. Since there is no USSR invasion of Eastern Poland, their mobilization does not drop to 20%. By reading the specifics on DE406, Poland must be playing its part of the Allied turn before the USSR and surrendering. Is this what is happening?

If this is by design, is this the price to pay by Germany for a one-turn knock-out of Poland? The USSR still colludes with Germany to partition a Minor, assuming Germany honors the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. Are the Western Allies less offended with the USSR because they were not forced to get their hands dirty? I think there should still be repercussions on the USSR's mobilization.

When DE406 was conceived, was a one-turn conquest of Poland taken into account?

I am new to the game, so will this absence of a drop in USSR mobilization have a nasty repercussion down the road for Barborossa? I guess I better hurry up in the West.

Thanks for your feedback.

I just saw this passage in topic "A Guide to German Decision Events":

"But first a comment on Poland. I used to try & conquer Poland on T1 but there are benefits to leaving it until T2 or later. Russian mobilisation falls when they invade Poland. This is good news for the Axis."

This answers my question. I suppose the Western Allies are only upset with the USSR over Poland when they step in to take their share, as opposed to it being handed to them by Germany.

Sorry to have taken your time.

Welcome to the game and thanks for your posts! :)

As you've seen, the USSR can still gain territory in Poland even if the country is taken in one turn, the decision being in Germany's hands.
