Questions before possible purchase

Post by NickGen »

Hi,
I discovered this game not long ago,
I really like the Wego system, and the fact that there is a
editor that comes with the game.
In this regard, I have a few questions:
Is the game scale fixed or is it possible
to modify it in the editor? (for example if I want to make a
map at 5 or 10 km per hex, it is possible or it is hardcoded ? )

If I understood correctly by going through the forum and looking at the
screenshots available, the map is a graphic file of a
single piece, no tiles?
Is it possible to mod all graphics files? (for example those of the interface)

Thanks in advance for answering my questions.

Hi, the scale can be anything you like you can define the unit sizes, from platoons to armies. Nothing is hardcode like that.

The map can be either tiles or an image file. If there's no image file, it'll use tiles.
You can mod all the terrain files to whatever you like.

Also, you can export the tiled map as an image file.
I.e. you can create a map with tiles in the editor, then export it as an image, then you can do some photoshop magic on that image, and then use that image in the game instead of tiles.
Included in the game too is the MegaMap of the Stalingrad area. In the Editor you can "cut" off sections of that to create smaller scenarios, the cut section will be a cut-section of the map with all the terrain hexes etc.

Any other questions, shout!

Cheers,
Brian

(BK and I answered at the same time :) )

the editor is very flexible. One can choose the turn length and spatial scale.

- The editor creates a map with default TILES first.
- then one can superimpose an IMAGE on top of the tile map (this is what happens in Stalingrad)
- the tiles can be modded as well (as say in TOAW) as the default ones are quite simple.
- one could also export the tile map first as a png file, improve it in say Photoshop (add location names, change colors etc etc) and use it as the graphic file itself.

Below is the graphic file superimposed and then the same map but with just the tiles.

P.S
I saw the editor/AI manual during testing but I don't see it in the final game. I will investigate...

Hi,
Thanks a lot for your answers,
I cracked and bought the game :D
after trying the intro scenario,
I must say that the game is really interesting and addictive.

I am in the process of discovering the editor, and indeed,
I couldn't find a manual for this part.

The editor looks very complete but not easy to understand at first...

I would like to create a scenario on a more recent period,
do you think it is possible?
(Dates and sides appear to be hardcoded)

why not? The editor is pretty scalable/abstract.
I think the manual will be in the first patch.

Oh I second that. I 'd be great to change that....;).
It'd be great to have a section for mods/scenarios as with all other games....so they do not get lost in the general section.

We definitely need a Mods and Scenarios forum for this one.

Regarding the editor's flexibility, would be possible to create a tactical level Stalingrad scenario using 250 meters per hex, 3 turns per day/night, with an overlay of the iconic city or entirely new tiles created to reflect the particularities of every hex? In that case, what would be the effect on the attack/ movement of the units involved? Would these factors be halved or scaled down accordingly?

It exists. Accidentally wasn't ship. Will be patched.
I'll post it here someplace. Just have to find the newest version (the author wasn't me and he's away for a few days).

Oh, I can add that to the patch so they can be settable.

Hi Brian,
do you have an idea of a date for the patch you are talking about?
This would be a great addition for modding possibilities...
