The allied air force gets brave and tries an air raid on Palembang port - targeting an amphib TF that just finished dropping off some reinforcements. The allied planes were chewed up good, but they did manage to land 2 bombs, sinking one xAP. I have been rotating my fighter groups there on LR CAP over some nearby bases and TFs and he caught me with only a single fighter unit on CAP.

Allies send a ton of fighters to Billiton - where my CVEs were playing CAP Trap last turn - but nothing was there. I moved them away to avoid any unpleasantness. 4 Squadrons of P-47D25s swept the skies there.

Surprisingly there were no naval bombardments at Jaluit this turn, although air raids continued as normal. Jaluit is devoid of troops except for the 52nd Naval Guard which is 95% disabled. I have been airlifting them out as fast as I can but that has stopped now so the base doesn't simply flip to allied control. I want him to waste his time landing and invading it.

The allied horde in Burma has split and two units showed up at Mandalay on their own. I quickly called up the Helens for a full scale attack on these isolated units. While not a crippling attack it did seem I destroyed / damaged all on their AA guns and inflicted some actual loses on the AA unit.

With the allies attacking Sorong I have cleared the port at Babeldaob sending ships East and North. I had done this a while ago so I was a bit short on escorts and some slow xAKLs had to go on their own. So of course they run into not just one enemy sub, but two

I was upset at first, but then I watch the xAKLs put up a fight with their deck guns against the subs that surfaced to attack them... I lost one xAKL but put some damage on two subs.

My sub in the area fired on an enemy DD and actually hit them - this is a first. The sub took some damage in return. And then the sub attacked the survivors, missed, and was sunk. After the sub sunk, I heard sinking noises so I think the DD went down too.

For the past couple turns some Corsairs have been sweeping Balikpapan, which has no planes. So I moved back a unit of Tojos and had to wait two turns before the Corsairs came calling. The losses for the enemy was much higher, Intel reported 15 killed in A2A and 2 due to ops.

I am back from my vacation to Florida and for once the weather wasn't 100 degrees... The first couple days were in the mid to high 70s (perfect weather if you ask me) and then it was in the mid to high 80s for the rest. Only had a little bit of rain so over all a good trip to Disney and Universal-- the Rise of the Resistance is an awesome ride and I recommend it to anyone going -- it is probably the only ride I feel in Disney that is worth more than a 45 min wait. But I ramble -- back to the war.

I am skipping ahead a couple weeks and starting back up with the current turn.

Nomad has successfully landed and taken Oosthaven and is marching towards Palembang and probably around it. In a several day air battle he crushed my fighters and bombed the airfield at Palembang into a bunch of rubble - I no longer have any fighters there - nor any aircraft for that matter. All shipping has been suspended from there and only troops are left. I moved my CVEs into range of Palembang for some LR CAP thinking maybe they would bring down some bombers, but they got mauled instead. The 5c Zero is just outmatched - I need Sams.

The war in Burma is also heating up with allied troops massing at three defended bases - Toungoo, Taung Gyi and Lashio. Last turn the allies tried a massive attack at Toungoo resulting in 1900 IJA casualties and over 12,000 allied casualties.

Unless something drastic happens my troops in Burma should be able to hold their position for a week or more. Defenders at Lashio will them retreat into the mountains to Paoshan where another 3 Divisions and a good dozen or more artillery units are waiting behind level 6 forts. Without a much larger force I do not see him breaking through Paoshan.

Taung Gyi has 3 Divisions and an RF Gun unit perched before level 6 forts. Despite the fact that the enemy has a unit to the east blocking that avenue of retreat the path to the south is still open. I may need to move a unit there to secure that route if I need it.

Toungoo defenders are currently behind a level 5 fort (was level 6 before yesterday's attack which I don't expect another such attack for several days). I have quite a few troops here and they are rebuilding the forts. Should Toungoo falls the troops should retreat south to Phyu, where units have level 4 forts and building more.

The night starts off with an allied sub putting a torpedo into the Kanju near Nagasaki. In response the Mutsure pounces on the sub and sinks her with 4 DC hits and a 12cm shell hit when she surfaced for a few seconds.

I've been thinking about what to do if I ever get into that situation I feel start by turning off small refineries 20 and lower or 10 or lower IDK up to you. To at least get your days higher and keep your large refiners producing that sweet fuel and supplies.

We are playing a modified map with a ton of extra Light Industry so supplies are fairly plentiful. The oil is only to keep all refineries working at max production. I will still have some oil coming in but most of the major fields are either lost to the Allies or basically blockaded due to nearby allied air power. I did some calculations last evening and I should have enough fuel / resources / HI stockpiled to keep everything running for about 1 year. Then the economy will be destroyed. The problem I see in the near future will be having enough fuel for naval ops.

Well I tried some more night bombing of enemy airfields and it proved as useless as the turn before. Most of my bombers didn't even find the target to try to bomb it

I bombed more allied troops in Burma - partly to see what was where and also to inflict some damage. He is not flying any CAP over his troops in the open - but mostly using his fighters for offensive sweeps and escort for his bombers. I think my Franks scare him.

Allied heavy bombers attack Lashio inflicting no losses. Overall a quiet turn which I like. Every quiet turn means another 10+ Sams into my pools. Once I have enough I will replace all my 5c Zeros on the Carriers and go wreck some havoc. The Sams should rule the skies and my Judys / Jills should do some good damage to enemy ships.

In an effort to deny Nomad a closer airfield I ordered my LR Bombers to hit the airfield at Benkoelen. I was a bit surprised that they did a decent job in the attack.

I've been thinking about what to do if I ever get into that situation I feel start by turning off small refineries 20 and lower or 10 or lower IDK up to you. To at least get your days higher and keep your large refiners producing that sweet fuel and supplies.
We are playing a modified map with a ton of extra Light Industry so supplies are fairly plentiful. The oil is only to keep all refineries working at max production. Its not where I want the stockpile to be but it is what it is. I am working on a plan to get another 350-400k fuel but it will take another week or so before I'm ready to execute it.

More allied fighter sweeps over Lashio - I am counting 5 squadrons of Hurricane IIc Trop aircraft assigned to these missions. Not sure if he is simply training his pilots or actually worried I might pop up a hundred Franks over Lashio to catch his bombers. Could be both. He continues to bomb Lashio but the jungle forts are doing a great job protecting my men.

It was bound to happen and it did. My Helens in Burma ran into enemy fighters. The results were not as bad as you would have thought - the Helens stood up to the punishment from the Hurricanes.

My LR Bombers hit some paratroopers at Benkoelen and I was impressed with the damage they inflicted. Usually they don't do a whole lot but I must have gotten a good die roll for once.

My Helens from Singapore ran into enemy fighters as well and did not fare as well as their brothers in Burma. The Thunderbolts pack more of a punch and a lot of Helens went down in flames. Overall I lost 40 Helens in Air-to-air this turn with another 20 from ops. A rough day for Helen pilots.

Allied bombers arrived over Palembang again in the morning only to find some Japanese fighters in the sky waiting for them. I ran some LR CAP from Singapore (with fuel tanks) and was hoping for a better performance. The fighters did a decent job, but I couldn't get enough over the target to inflict heavy losses.

The day was ended by another pointless artillery attack at Lashio. I think he sees movement from my units there and is trying to decide if they leave so he can attack. In fact, the 59th Infantry Brigade is pulling out to the east so they can retreat into the mountains and hold at Paoshan. The 11th Garrison unit withdraws in 20+ days so it will stay at Lashio and defend til the end.

After some more worthless night airfield attacks by me, Nomad sweeps multiple bases in Burma with at least 3-4 squadrons of fighters each -- if only I had this many fighter groups to put in one theater. Currently I have 3 theaters running and am trying to maximize fighters over each and not doing a good job. At least in a week or so I'll get 3 more fighter units.

Allied recon has been trying to find my Helen bases so he can bomb them. I mean, there's not a lot of choices for Airfields large enough to handle Helens without penalties. He found them at Uttaradit and the bombers came. Its odd though - my Helens were given their own missions and technically should have been in the air when his bombers showed up. But the engine handles air raids one at a time in some order so if your unit is not actively bombing somewhere they are at their home base sitting ducks.
