Factory Repair

Post by HOTEC »

By the script, the 16 Heavy Industry factory points in Kiev is relocated to Omsk in Turn 2. I check Omsk in Turn 3. The Heavy Industry factory points have 48% damage with its return to the game in 15th Turn. I check Omsk in Turn 4. The damages are repaired even they are in Delay. Apart from the repair of the Heavy Industry factory points, the Armament factory points have been repaired from 4% in Turn 3 to 0% in Turn 4 as well. The normal repair rate for Armaments factory point is 3%. Q1: Why does it get this extra 1%? The repair rate of 2% (48-46) for Heavy Industry factory points is nonetheless as designed. My assumption that no operation takes place for a unit during its delay is apparently incorrect. Thus, I assign a construction unit, 29th Engineer-Sapper Battalion, to Omsk to accelerate the repair. This saves 1 AP. In Turn 5, the construction unit is mysteriously disappeared. Unwillingly, I spend 1 AP to set for priority repair. I expect that a construction unit would be assigned to Omsk and the 17%(42-25) damaged Heavy Industry factory points. They show not in Turn 6. Q2: Why?

These are excellent questions that I have wondered myself.

Regarding priority repair:

I, like you, thought the AI would automatically assign a construction engineer.
But no, it does not. (even with a HQ in same hex with construction engineers).
Setting a factory to priority repairs will result in HQ units
automatically assigning construction support units to the
hex during the logistics phase.
NO - this is not true.

Best I can tell is that priority repair makes a suggestion to the AI to auto assign a construction engineer. Which it may or may not do.

Other than that, if directs those engineers that are assigned to work on the specified 'priority' industry first. However, it doesn't do anything if no engineers are assigned.

I have spent the AP point and used priority repair to find no engineers auto-assigned the next turn. grrr..... And then have to manually assign the engineer myself later (and spending yet another AP point).

And trust me, I had plenty of idle construction engineers in HQs in close proximity to the city.

Regarding the extra 1%, could this be the reason?
There is an adjustment to the repair percentage based
on the size (number of points) of the factory as follows:
§ If factory size is 1-3, multiply basic repair rate x3
§ If factory size is 4-6, multiply basic repair rate x2

In Turn 5, the construction unit is mysteriously disappeared.
To my knowledge, the AI is not supposed to unassign an engineer that you manually assigned yourself. I would think that is a bug.
