Modding Music

Post by solops »

I put this over in the Tech support forum, which was probably a mistake, so here goes again:

How does the music work in this game? I found the music folder, which has a bunch of sub-folders, all with tunes in them. How to I change it so it just plays the music I want it to all of the time? All I really need is Vader's Imperial March and a couple of others (Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries and Orff's Carmina Burana/Fortuna Imperatrix, Johny Cash's When the Man Comes Around, The Good The Bad and the Ugly, Theme from Hogan's Heroes, etc.)

You can look here: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 7#p4972507 ;)

Oh - and you can exchange/place any music file you want in those folders - even WAVs and WMAs (and some other formats) work ! - Just try it. ;)

Thanks. That thread does not really answer many questions.
Are subfolders necessary?
If you get rid of them will it crash the program?
If you delete the subfolders will the game just play the tunes under the main music directory?
Would there be interruptions?
Etc cetera.....

Test:
Removed all directories from the "music" directory.
Replaced all remaining files in the base "music" directories with my own mp3 files.
Results:
1. The game does not crash.
2. Music places continuously.
3. Individual tunes are interrupted and replaced with a different tune from the "music" directory when zooming in/out or selecting a qualifying action. The interrupted tune resumes when you go back to the game condition from which it was interrupted.

Well, it seems you forgot (to test) some things (that are written in the given thread, too):
1. In Galaxy-view you'll only hear the music that's stored in the "Peaceful"-folder - except when no file is placed in this folder (or the folder doesn't exist) - then the file(s) in the root-directory (data) are played instead. (but this is also true for all the other folders, as you found out already. ;) )
2. The music in the other folders will be played in diferent game-situations (see the thread from above), but NOT in Galxy-view. ;)

And you can test / find out your self very easily if you place only 1 file in each folder (or even only in 1 folder) and do diferent things in game. ;)
