Replacements or ammo/supplies

Post by Stamb »

What is the reason that despite having enough freight during refit if i receive men then there is very small amount of ammo that unit gets.
I would imagine that people from a pool come with an ammo.

Same goes for supplies.
And maybe for a fuel, did not check it specifically.

I do not believe it works that way.

I believe that replacements are delivered without any ammo/supplies.

As far as delivery of replacements / freight (depot-to-depot), there are at least two constraints that I am away of:
When you are in logistical mode and press '8', the white lines represent this leg of the transport

1. rail line capacity
2. rail transport (basically, the trains) (i, personally, have never seen this as a problem yet... but who knows?)

Now, from depot-to-unit, at greater than 3 hexes, this requires vehicles (either in the depot itself or from the unit)
When you are in logistical mode and press '8', the red lines represent this leg of the transport

anyways, this gives you at least 3 things to look at for a potential logistical problem.

I wrote that i have enough freight, i am playing as a Soviets lol

So the question is if it is WAD that replacements (men) come hungry and without ammo? Or not WAD.

this is wrong at a very critical level, so worth repeating how it works.

If a unit is within 3 hexes of a depot AND that depot can fill its supply request (partially or completely) THEN it wil use the horse transport rules. If it has to go further (& often it does, then it uses for trucks as normal.

Note there are two conditional aspects to the rule

to a large extent freight is freight but there are two additional rules.

First replacements (equipment or men) tends to be last in the queue, so in a constrained situation may well never be sent to that unit (even if it needs them).

Second freight is broken to fuel/ammo/supply both according to unit need and what is in the overall pools.

Now manpower arrives after the 'supply' freight allocation is made, so yes its feasible that the reinforced unit is a little bit short, equally its feasible the other elements in freight aren't to hand.

as an edit to this - Joel has a few times indicated there are a number of sub-routines that sit outside the main flow of the logistics phase, think its things like the removal of damaged elements that can trigger secondary flows. Or, in other words, theres some (to quote Dr Who) 'timey-winey' stuff going on in addition to the more structured interactions

Not wrong Loki, I think you misread it. (well, there is one part that is wrong, vehicles in the global pool can be used as well)

I think you are getting confused over ( > 3 hexes ) vs ( <= 3 hexes ).

Anyways, I intentionally did not cover the ( <= 3 hexes ) case, as this starts to get a little complicated. And I think we can both agree that it does not use vehicles.

nope, I'm not going to agree with something that is wrong

units within 3 hexes of a depot will use horses if they can fully supply from that depot, if they can't then they use trucks. So the distance rule needs to take account of supply at the target depot and total demand falling on that depot
