September 28, 1943 continues

I realized that I did not put this ground combat in. I really got a bad set of die rolls
The terrain in the hex is jungle at 2x defense.

There were no negatives listed for me, I actually had about 3100 AV in the hex, one medium sized
LCU was in defend mode. Nothing stands out for me to get about 10-12% of my AV. Anyway, all my
units will have to rest for a while to bring down disruption and try and get their disabled elements
back on line.

You have had nearly 4600 views of your AAR - that is not nothing!

I commented fairly often at first when I didn't know much about your experience or style of play. When it became apparent you know what you are doing I curbed most of my commentary.

In your previous post about the bad result for your LCUs, I noted that the enemy had 5 tank units and only one infantry, but then saw you had more vehicles than he did - leaving me feeling like bad die rolls was the answer so I did not post a comment.

One thing that might help your AAR is posting regular map updates so that occasional readers can more readily see what the situation is. Your war is becoming more fluid now as the Allied steamroller moves forward so frequent maps is my suggestion.

Hi BBfanboy. Yes you have commented and I do appreciate that. My comment was mostly about the
seeming slow down of posting in general on the forum. People like Castor Troy just went away.
Yes I do get a number of views and I will see about posting more screenshots.

Thank you for your comment(s).

I'm watching it mainly to know what if. I probably don't have much experience for giving :-)
I'm just writing my first AAR and I agree with what BBfanboy says the pictures help to understand the situation. I try to avoid long reports from the fights, but I keep them to a minimum to illustrate the situation. I think that if you want some reactions from readers, you need to make some overview of the situation and you need to outline the possibilities for continuing, and then it is possible to discuss it.

I keep my fingers crossed and keep writing.

It's ok to talk to yourself, I often do it.
I try to check into the AA reports at least once a day and yours is almost always the first one I read.

A picture of Burma. I am bombing the troops in the White circle with some B-25Cs. I am trying to
increase their disruption and possibly lower their supply. I have units moving to join those there, but
they are a number of days away.
In the light green circle again I am waiting for my troops to recover and there are more units
on the move to join.

I have a number of troops moving to Taung Gyi, there are a number of defenders there.

============================================
Again no real action in the air

Something I noticed doing the turn, the hex in the white circle in the post above is now empty
he vacated it, I have no real idea why. I do think he needs to stand and fight some more, even
if he loses some units in the process. That unit was across a river and my units were set to go
the long way around so they did not cross the river, now they can move down the road and be
there in a few days.

And to let everyone know, xargun and I are discussing starting another game when we decide
this one is concluded. It will be a 400 point variant scenario 2 game.

AO Ken'yo Maru is one of the big ones that accompanied KB on the PH strike. Would be great if it burned up, but if it was not loaded at the time it probably will survive.

I think it was empty, my naval search showed a TF with an AO in it at Palembang.
That does bring up an interesting item, xargun has complained about slow loading
at Palembang. Using large AOs will not make things any easier. I remember playing
Japan a long time ago and I used mostly small tankers to move fuel to Singapore
and then used large TKs to move it to the Home Islands.

I blame your 16th Group Army commander. Get him off to your HR department.

Could be, I'll look into it next turn.

Just to let everyone know, my opponent is on vacation and is traveling tomorrow, so there will be no turns until Saturday

Variants - Allied side - NO Xargun pleas

After he says he will not send a turn today, he sends me one. :?:

Not a lot of action. I did hear the sounds of a sub sinking at the start of the replay.
Nothing shows up on the sunk ship list.

I hit a sub around Kai-eilanden in the DEI with a number of near misses, not enough to sink it
and it seems to now have disappeared.

I again attacked the troops in the green circle, grinding them down some and there is still a movement
arrow out of the hex to the SE.

Ground combat at 56,49 (near Toungoo)

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 98021 troops, 913 guns, 1016 vehicles, Assault Value = 3507

Defending force 8264 troops, 131 guns, 479 vehicles, Assault Value = 337

Allied adjusted assault: 1035

Japanese adjusted defense: 571

Allied assault odds: 1 to 1

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+)
Attacker:

Japanese ground losses:
1004 casualties reported
Squads: 2 destroyed, 101 disabled
Non Combat: 65 destroyed, 11 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 6 disabled
Guns lost 30 (1 destroyed, 29 disabled)
Vehicles lost 134 (118 destroyed, 16 disabled)
Units destroyed 1

Allied ground losses:
836 casualties reported
Squads: 4 destroyed, 102 disabled
Non Combat: 2 destroyed, 5 disabled
Engineers: 1 destroyed, 17 disabled
Vehicles lost 5 (1 destroyed, 4 disabled)

6th Mixed A/T Mtr Regiment
8th Medium Regiment
16th Group Army

Defending units:
3rd Tank Regiment
3rd Tank Division
11th Indpt Infantry Regiment
23rd Tank Regiment
And indeed it seems that the 9th Tank Regiment and the 11th Tank Regiment were destroyed last turn
Another unit was destroyed today, probably one of the two remaining tank regiments

I landed and took Jaluit today, no real opposition encountered
I landed troops at Ebon, they did not shock attack but will attack tomorrow. The amphibious TF is remaining on
station and will transport the troops to Namorik tomorrow. I quick look at the Marshall Islands, I am slowly taking the
bases, it is not all that important to my plans at this time. It will be a good long time before I can attack the
Mariana Islands and I do not need them until then, and only to shorten my movement lines.

SS Stingray fired 2 torpedoes at a DD NE of Balikpapan and missed
She suffered some damage from the DCs dropped and will return to base for repairs
The interesting thing is that that TF had a bunch of TKs in it and ended up at Balikpapan
along with his CVE fleet with about 150+/- fighters on board. I am sending a sweep of
Balikpapan using a size 75 P-47D25 unit. I have 3 PT boat squadrons moving to Madjene
to try a run into Balikpapan. I also have both a modern BB SCTF and a CL SCTF moving to
the area. I have built Madjene to size 7 and I am continuing to build it.
I am moving SBDs and TBs there and there is a Air HQ at Makassar.

I have been chasing a sub in the area around Kai-eilanden for days now, I might have
finally sunk it.

On the ground in the hex NW of Toungoo I expelled all enemy troops

Defeated Japanese Units Retreating!

50th Tank Brigade

70th Chinese Corps
8th Chinese Corps
1st Chinese Corps
20th Indian Division
XXXIII Corps Engineer Battalion
5th Indian Division
8th Medium Regiment
6th Mixed A/T Mtr Regiment
16th Group Army

Defending units:
3rd Tank Division
23rd Tank Regiment
Recon shows a lot of troops at Toungoo, it will be a tough fight.

My attack NW of Oosthaven did not go well, he bombed my Infantry Division from
Singapore. He sent 90+ Helen bombers and raised the disruption very high and
the attack failed. I will wait for a bit, it is not terribly important

Other that the attack on the 5th Australia Infantry Division, not much air activity.

Of course things don't really go the way I think.

My fighter sweeps of Balikpapan were scrubbed for weather.

Then this, I never understand these
These MTBs are our of fuel, how do they evade combat?
Day Time Surface Combat, near Enggano at 43,94, Range 29,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
MTB A-9
MTB A-10
MTB A-11
MTB A-12

Allied Ships
DD Caldwell
DD Cassin
DD Monaghan

Maximum visibility in Clear Conditions: 30,000 yards
CONTACT: Japanese lookouts spot Allied task force at 29,000 yards
Japanese TF attempts to evade combat
Range increases to 29,000 yards...
Japanese PT Boat TF evades combat
He send bombers to the 5th Australian Division 1 hex NW of Oosthaven and I put up LRCAP
I shot down 22 Helen bombers and lost no fighters, he did not escort or sweep. I will not LRCAP
tomorrow, I expect him to only sweep with Franks tomorrow.

A SCTF found some mines at Kalidjati, none hit any but I will send in mineweepers tomorrow
He must have laid them by sub earlier.

No ground attacks today

A discouraging turn to be sure

First, one of those things that happen, it is not fun, but it happens
Sub attack near Balikpapan at 65,100

Japanese Ships
SS I-23, hits 1

Allied Ships
CL Montpelier, Torpedo hits 2, heavy damage
DD Fletcher

SS I-23 launches 6 torpedoes at CL Montpelier
I-23 diving deep ....
DD Fletcher fails to find sub, continues to search...
DD Fletcher attacking submerged sub ....
DD Fletcher fails to find sub, continues to search...
DD Fletcher fails to find sub, continues to search...
DD Fletcher fails to find sub, continues to search...
Escort abandons search for sub
She sank right away.
-------------------------------------------
We get a little redemption
Sub attack near Fukue-jima at 100,58

Japanese Ships
xAK Kyoto Maru, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
xAK Tateisi Maru
E Ukishima

Allied Ships
SS Gar

SS Gar launches 2 torpedoes at xAK Kyoto Maru
Gar diving deep ....
E Ukishima fails to find sub, continues to search...
E Ukishima attacking submerged sub ....
E Ukishima fails to find sub, continues to search...
E Ukishima fails to find sub, continues to search...
E Ukishima fails to find sub, continues to search...
Escort abandons search for sub
-----------------------
And we catch up to the 4 MTBs and sink them

=================================

I swept Balikpapan and downed 25 A6M5c Zeros for the lost of 1

but then I hit a CAP trap over Bhamo in Burma and lose
30 B-25C bombers.
========================================

On the ground I took Prome, he again evacuated all by a small
cadre. I am not sure that is the best way to defend, but it is what he is doing.
